This is the manual gear box drain plug. Our engine oil drain plug does not have a magnet, would be good if you could find one that fits.

This is the purpose of magnets on the oil filter, with the benefit that when you pull it off all the rubbish is already sitting in it and can't float away. Something like this or the alternatives discussed therein might be useful :)

how reliable are those found in ebay? i know all we need is a magnetic bolt right? but what I'm more worried about is the bolt itself coming off loose..

I'd be careful of cheaper ones. Could prove to be a problem later on down the track...

I had one for the Sil once and the thread split on it. This one I have now is better quality and uses a true earth magnet so it's alot stronger.

make sure you get a steel one,

not a cheap shit alloy one,
the thread will just get ripped of after a couple of use's

It's a generic picture ie its a standard Nissan example for the pic, but the Mitsubishi type if ordered should fit. That was the response from Darren the manager

I haven't gotten around to it yet

I got one of the alloy ones off ebay. Seems good but will only use it a couple of times and then get a new one as they are cheap.

I think I'll try and get a steel one next time.

I took a photo of mine after a 5000km oil change yesterday. I'll post it up when my camera gets back from NZ hopefully accompanied by my wife :)
