Planning on doing this as a first stage upgrade.

Just want to get some recommendations on which MBC are good, which ones to avoid.

Also my car is being serviced at Carmen's in 2 weeks. Now I am told fitting the MBC is pretty easy. I am presuming they could do it during the service to save me from doing something horribly wrong if I try myself.

So the q's are

1) Which MBC?

2) Is it something most mechanics could do even if they haven't done it before?

cheers

There is a how to on installing one.

Most people get the turbo tech ones off ebay they are cheap and do the job well.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Turbotech-manual-turbo-boost-controller-THE-ORIGINAL_W0QQitemZ190303167572QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item190303167572&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A1|39%3A1|240%3A1308|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

You could probably do it yourself or get charged $100 by the mechanic to do it for you.

Free Bump.
Yeah dude, listen to Hugh, this is simple to install and cheap as, good to do as a start cause after a month of having it you can then either upgrade or remove it after realising YOU USE WAAAY TOO MUCH FUEL!! lol

....and then you get bored and install it into your Mum's S70 T5 volvo! LOL should have seen the look on her face when she came back from the shops.
"What did you do to the car Alex? It seems, I dunno, jerkier"
LOL!

Thanks,

saw the turbotech's on Ebay. Always a bit wary of ebay and cheap stuff, but these seem OK.

Thanks for that. Will get the turbotech. They seem to be about 1/2 the price of the other ones available.

legnum600, this one controls boost and also the ramp up rate, does a turbosmart one do that?

Marty,

Carmen don't usually go into the modifying scene with customers cars.(at least not when I've asked for quotes on oil coolers etc.)

Besides its VERY easy to install; literally buy a desired MBC and cut/change a few things here and there. (As per the guide in the DIY section)

I have heard good things about the turbotech but can't vouche for them; the only MBC's I have used were turbosmart "boost tee" and GFB "atomic" which were both equally good.

From memory the turbosmart is around $50-100AUD @ repco and the GFB is around $80-100AUD.

Paul, I wouldn't recommend spending the extra money on that unit over any other MBC.

Unfortunately our cars have a VERY uncontrollable spool rate as logged in that thread regarding tuning EBC's.

Thats just my opinion though, it may work for you.... Everyone's car is different I guess :)

My Turbosmart tee holds boost pretty well i've noticed, and that's with the crappy stock BOV and running 11psi. Should hopefully hold rock steady once i've got a Evo MR BOV on the car. Really happy with it considering it cost so little, like $80 or something.

I still recommend if you are going to raise the factory boost; save and get an EBC or ECU/piggyback otherwise leave it @ factory boost level.

But thats my 2c and its been covered 50 million thousand times on here.

That what logging showed could't be controlled though ;)

EBC's can control creep and taper which from my understanding from the articles, this will not really do.

If you're getting it cheap though, it makes SFA difference haha (y)
