Hi all,

Just thought I'd say hi since I'm new to the forum, I've been reading threads for quite a while but have only just started posting.

I've made the jump and started actively searching for a VR4 in Japan to import, so now it's just a waiting game until a nice clean White Grade 4-4.5 Manual 2001-2002 Galant with low KM's comes up. I guess I could be waiting a while :crying:

I've actually realised that I've owned more Mitsubishi's than any other car, though this will be the first AWD car, from earliest to latest:

1991 Mitsubishi Verada - first car, parent's made me buy it, piece of junk auto, sold
1988 Mitsubishi AC Cordia Turbo (White, 5sp) - stock, crashed by friend :001_unsure:
1989 Nissan Skyline R32 Gts-t (Red, 5sp) - drift car, modified, sold
1984 Mitsubishi Sigma (white, auto)- cool car used it as a daily driver, sold
1984 Mitsubishi AB Cordia Turbo (Yellow, 5sp) - modded, drove to North QLD and back, was the pace-setter on a couple of Vic cordiapower cruises, sold
1994 BMW 318is (red, 5sp) - daily driver, getting sick of it and about to sell it to fund my new Galant
1988 Mitsubishi AC Cordia Turbo (Red, 5sp) - setting up for hillclimb/autocross, work in progress (currently gathering dust waiting for me to do some work on it)

So, hoping to add a VR4 galant to that list in the near future.

I'm in Melbourne, was fairly active on cordiapower while I was driving cordia's, and I used to plan a lot of the cruises, so looking forward to attending some Vic cruises!

Welcome to the active side of the site then Tim. We're always looking for people to take the time to organise cruises, always!

You should stop in next week for the wash meet on Wednesday night, we're a friendly bunch and always up for talking to prospective buyers about getting into a VR4.

Yay! Someone who created their thread title properly and didn't ask stupid questions :)

Welcome mate, i'm your number 1 fan!

Welcome! Don't suppose the Cordia is in any shape to bring down to the wash meet? I've never had a good look at one.

ah rodger... no it's not me, though it's become the joke every time you mention a cordia on a car forum!! It's a shame really.

Hehe, I'd love to bring a cordia down to a meet but it's not road registered.... in fact below is a recent photo of the "interior" so you see what I mean when it's not exactly practical to drive it down to a meet!

Heh. Can't you just chuck a pillow in there to sit on and sticky tape a steering wheel on? lol

yeah it actually drives like that, the only issue is that the exhaust vents straight from the turbo via a custom made pipe, and I haven't yet blocked up the holes in the firewall so you can't drive it because you get gassed by fumes from the engine bay. I like the deck chair idea!

I've estimated that I've saved somewhere between 100-200kg in weight reductions after removing all of the interior, deadening tar (not shown in pic), AC, exhaust etc. and put lighter weight rims & drivers seat in it. I'd love to try and get it to 725kg because that's the weight of a lotus elise but I think i'll need something drastic (like cutting the roof off or something). Anyway, I'll probably just put it back on when I get a rollcage but at least it'll be safe and more rigid. The 80's cars are so light to begin with (must be the lack of safety features...)

Next steps are suspension mods, decent tyres, solid driveshafts, locked diff, roll cage, and finally I'll look at improving the power, however I'm not in a hurry so this is likely to be a project for me over the next few years when I have spare time to work on the thing. The main thing for me was starting with a clean rust-free cordia which I managed to find for $300 (with a blown head gasket - now fixed)

Actually, front wheel drives are a pain, I got halfway through this build and I'm seeing '88-93 VR4 Galant's for less than $3k and I'm starting to wish I started with an AWD, though it would mean I'd be competing against evo's and rex's.

Bit like me mate, welcome.

Ive owned a few cars in my very short past... last car was euro (Audi) and got sick of it real quick. Although the only good thing was the fuel efficiency (600-700k's from a tank)

Ive also got a 1982 Starion.

Welcome aboard Tim,

I've got a bit of a soft spot for older Mitsi's and the good ol' tin worm is getting the better of some of them now (which is a shame).

Lookin' forward to more Cordia shenanigans :)

hey guys, just an update, search is over, purchased a vr4 today to import (probably won't get here for a couple of months). The goods:
2002 VR4 Galant. Auction grade 4, 62,000kms, 5 speed manual, factory recaros + momo steering wheel, some mods (exhaust, Tien coilovers, rims). All very clean, interior looks great, only issue is that it has a evo style wing, I'd definitely try and get that replaced or removed. Anyway, all in all I'm one happy chappy after looking at 20-30 cars over past month or two!

ahhh, i know the one ;)

its a super vr4 wing btw. pretty cool oem part

ah, interesting... so was that an option?

I hope someone on this site wasn't bidding against me! lol

I also got some goodies in the boot which I don't know what they are yet, though I can see a box for Tien EDFC which is what lets you adjust the coilover damper settings from in the cabin which is pretty cool (but I can't see it installed in the engine bay).

I enjoyed importing my last car and I was surprised when I got it how good it was, so hoping that I get the same surprise this time, it all looks good on paper, I think I'll be happy with it.

These are the pics that were taken before buying it.

Nice Ralliart cup holder and Loud recaros

momo wheel and pimping recaro's! nice

i wouldnt expect those parts to be there when it arrives for complience. id ring your importer and ask for them to be put on a pallet/into a container

That is a bullshit combo! 02 - 5M - Recaro's - Indigo Blue. Well done

I hope for your sake that the guys on the docks forget to look in the boot!

FYI Recaro's aren't stock. AWESOME combination though, very jealous!

Throw some new wheels on it and drop it on its guts and you'll have a winner :)

Is that indigo blue? I thought it looks black. Beautiful car either way, but yeah I would get those goodies hidden or sent separately.
