The more I read about these cars, the more I want one LOL

Sorry if these questions have been posted/answered elsewhere. I did have a look but couldn't find a FAQ as such.

Type V or Type S? Has anybody driven both, and is the AYC worth getting if you're not gonna drive it hard? Is there any other difference between the two types? I imagine that if I got a Legnum I'd drive it a bit harder than my current ride, but living and commuting in the 'burbs I don't get the chance to put the boot in it that often.

Is there a page somewhere that explains all the acronyms being thrown around here? I can pick up some of them from context, but others have me stumped.

Many thanks
Derek

Hi Derek,

here is the FAQ thread you are looking for ( did you try a search for FAQ?? :) ).

cheers

Lee

whoops ... um, no I didn't *search* for FAQ... I assumed the FAQ would be found under the FAQ link in the navigation bar under the banner... and there was no FAQ there.

Many thanks for the link. :)

I've been in a few type V's and I've owned 2 type S's, and the AYC cars do feel a little better to me, like they've got more grip at the rear

Ok, a few more questions...

1. What determines whether the car has the extra little lips on the wheelarches? Is that just a factory option, or does it come standard with one of the Type V/S variants? (I actually prefer the plain wheelarches)

2. How hard is it to get a non-woodgrain dash? Did all the pre-facelift models have the woodgrain dash? All the carbonfibre examples I've seen are post-facelift models.

3. I realise that most of you have had your cars for less than a year, but what are your initial impressions regarding reliability and serviceability? I'm hoping that there aren't any hidden gotchas like extra-special oil filters or spark plug leads that are only available from trained buddhist monks once a year at the winter solstice, or anything like that... LOL

I'm still unsure whether to go with existing stock at a dealer, should I find a car I like (I've booked a test drive for Friday... can't wait!) or secure the services of Kristian or Ben to find the exact car I want... I'm not in a huge hurry to buy one but then again, I expect that I'll be very verrrrry tempted once I take one for a spin.

Cheers
Derek

Man here is an example for you i just did my 120,000km's service at mitsubishi (found out afterwards they are only just evo stockist so they didnt really know what they were doing) cost me $970.00 to do oil, spk plugs, filter (available anywhere that sells oil filters not hard to find Z56b is what i used but you can use others as well all EASY to find) they also (suposidly) serviced the ayc with a flush and new oil. it still makes the noise around corners and have been told its because they didnt do it right. Fred from orange has the details on how to bleed it properly so i am getting that for my local mechanic here.

as far as if you should import vs buy local, bonus of buying local is you get warranty down side you will pay around double for the car, which really means you could fix any problem you come accross with the money left over if you import yourself

i know that members here have bought from a car yard and payed double what i did and they didnt really get anything else other then the warranty.

expect import to take around 6months then when it only takes 3 you will be happy.

there have been allot getting caught waiting for dotars approval i think mainly due to the compliance centre not having enough available plates to do the demand of cars so choose your compliance centre well.

anyway if you want any more info msg me im more then willing to answer any questions you have as most of us here are :)

and they are definately worth the wait :)

1. Type S has the wheel arches ... (Type S are only Facelift)
2. Funny u should ask that as most the pre-face I have seen do have the woodgrain dash. There is however a grey surround dash as well as the carbon fibre.
3. Lucky for us the trained buddist monks have carted across some parts for us ... Seems a few regular parts can be found here already, from Magnas ... New Zealand has some good stocks of parts also. Have a search through the forums as there are some members over there that can help u out.
Definately get yourself to a meet in Vic and check out the members rides in the flesh ... You'll want one more than u do now :)

1. facelift type s vr-4 only. no prefacelifts or type v's had arches

2. all prefacelifts apart from super vr-4's and a very small number of early 96 cars have woodgrain. The early 96 cars have silver and dark grey carbon fibre.

3. auto gearboxes are poo unless serviced regularly with full flushes and the right oil. You'd better get a trans cooler too.

Another newb question from a newby

From reading some of the FAQ's and also the thread from Mitch regarding TCL; it would seam that the earlier PFL VR-4's had a lot more tricky crap as standard in them than the FL's. The following is a list of info I have gathered from speculations and actual info in this forum. Please correct anything that you know is wrong.

PFL Galant/Legnum

VR-4 Auto
Standard: AYC, ASC, TCL, ABS

VR-4 Manual
Standard: AYC, ABS

Super VR-4
Standard: AYC, TCL, ASC, ABS

FL Galant/Legnum

VR-4 Type V (Manual & Auto)
Standard: ABS

VR-4 Type S (Auto)
Standard: ABS
Option: AYC, ASC, TCL
[according to BradC ASC & TCL are near non-existent]

VR-4 Type S (Manual)
Standard: ABS
Option: AYC

A couple of corrections for you - TCL/ASC is only in auto PFL's not manuals.

The Supers were a special edition near the end of the PFL's, there are no FL Supers.

Cheers Lee; silly me... now that I think of it I've never seen a FL super before. Dam that makes them even rarer!!

I'll make those corrections.

I didn't think the Facelifts had the option of TCL/ASC at all ?

I'm not sure either, that is just something I speculated from reading a thread about a different topic.

So if I'm talking poo then I don't mind being corrected!!:D

I'm actually hoping this will turn into a special specs register for future buyers, so they can weigh up there options and ask if the vehicle has those options before buying. Not a lot of people would know that cars more than 10 years old had stability control technologies in them. I think a lot more would consider buying them with that knowledge.

Maybe Van, you could look at stickying this in the info section once a few more people have had input to fine tuned this.

I have a mitsi spec sheet saying it was an option, but I've never seen it, so as far as I'm concerned, a facelift with asc/tcl doesn't exist
