Hey Guys.

I have recently downloaded an RPG Making program and started my own Retro RPG. It is in the spirit of FF, Phantasy Star, Breath Of Fire Etc. And plays like a SNES game on PC.

I know there are a few older people here into Oldschool games, and younger people into Nostalgic Gaming so hopefully you guys can help with some comments/criticisms as I share my project here throughout development.

Ideally I would like to complete the game and release it as a DonationWare Product so I want it to be as perfect as possible.

I will be posting Screenshots/Vidoes/Demos etc for you guys that are interested and I hope to get some real honest feedback.

I'll have something to share soon as I complete my first tutorial style area and get a little demo ready to export after I playtest it.

Interesting:)
looking forwards to it

secret of mana style would be most excellent

good luck man, maybe try posting on reddit gaming when you have something as well

Cheers Guys.
The Engine on the Program combines A Chrono Trigger/FF style world map and town maps, With a battle system very similar to Phantasy Star.
I'll get some screen shots up tonight, having a ball jazzing it up, brings back memories.

I am even Aiming to replicate the child friendly but still mature story line and dialogue reminiscent of SNES classics, I would love to make a game older people can pick up and enjoy that young children can also play without being swamped, much like when I started gaming.

I had a laugh myself considering a deliberate poor Translation.
All Your Base Are Belong To Us!

Well technically that line is from a shoot-em-up (Zero Wing), so not eligible :P

Welcome to Nerdsville. Population: Me.

Hey Guys.
Have Been a bit short on time due to some other Commitments but I have Knocked the first little section of the Game out of the way.
Been a bit of a ride getting used to the scripting and such, this is my first attempt at anything like this and While I am a hardcore Gamer across MANY platforms, I am actually a fair bit of a spud when it comes to using computers for anything else.

I Will chuck up some screenshots this arvo for sure, But I am still chasing a way to Export the game (Demo) for people to Playtest. It Will Be About 250-500MB
So I will likely EMail it to people interested.

It is only a few minutes of Tutorial style intro gameplay and I haven't banged up a classic slideshow/scrolling text intro yet but it's on the way. Having a lot of fun along with a lot of Frustration.

Few Screenshots of my Basic starting Area, Inventory Screen and a tutorial battle with some Bats. Pretty General stuff so far, very typical of the Genre many years ago. About to dive into the Actual plot with the typical "Everything is going Great, Chat to the King, Bad Guy comes in and wrecks the joint, King goes down like a wet bag of S**t in the fight, young adventurers escape and live to fight another day"

I will mix it up a little but for now I am going to play it safe and stay close to the basic formula for old school RPG goodness
GO HERE>GET SENT THERE>DUNGEON
GET THERE>DUNGEON>GET SENT BACK etc

Working on character development for now and making up some custom items/skills and so on.
Will hopefully get my intro out of the way and make a decent name for the game too.

I may be able to sneak a VR4 Reference in there somewhere.

In the middle of an epic cutscene right now, I am planning on Screen recording it and putting it on youtube.

Still powering along with this mission, had a few weeks away with work getting my ass handed to me by the green machine but now I am back and back in to it!
I have a demo good to go, only problem being it is a 210MB file due to needing to include the resources needed if you dont hae the Game maker program installed on your PC.

I will get the demo up on Dropbox tonight hopefully and get a link to it for you guys that are keen.
Ill chuck some screenshots up too.
