Ok bradc, you can debate the merits of my thinking.

Today, a yellow, yes yellow 2001 model Galant VR-4 went through auction.

There isn't a mention anywhere of it being an aftermarket paintjob, and it certainly looks factory in the photos. My reasoning is that it is the same colour they painted Evo 7s, which were on sale that same year, and that a Galant or 3 were tested as pilots for that colour paint.

I had a REALLY good crack at this car, and was beaten by someone who paid BIG money for it. I seriously hope it's coming to Australia...

Just realised there was discussion about it elsewhere, but here's a yellow Evo 8 from the same auction - tell me if you think it's the same colour...

Um, this is my favourite colour on a car actually.

"Get-the-f*ck-out-of-my-way" yellow has always resonated strongly with me but only with the right shape. This suits the Galants lines perfectly and I do hope that it does make it to our wonderful shores. Wow.

I normally hate yellow I must add, but as I said, I had a real good go at this car. I reckon it looks sensational. I know how much the winner paid, but I'll keep that a trade secret ;)

If that's the colour I'm thinking of, those photos don't do it justice at all - looks fairly washed out, when IRL it is a strong, vibrant yellow. I've seen quite a few Evo's in that colour and its gorgeous!

I doubt that's why Kris is keeping schtum about it - its in the Importers' best interests to keep the actual going price of certain cars under the radar, especially if they are going to the effort and expense of bring cars in to sell retail over here. Keeping your margins a bit of a grey area is always useful in ANY industry ;)

I actually sent Ben a message to find out, but it wasn't them either.

Only reason I'm keeping Mum is that I obviously know what it would land for, and I don't want some poor schmuck buying it and feeling like got ripped off when he sees what it actually owed the seller.

A car like this SHOULD easily fetch $25k on the retail market, just on rarity alone. If its in fantastic condition, 30k wouldn't be out of the question IMHO. Personally I don't think anyone could or should get too upset about paying $10k extra for a landed car when they compare it to every other car in the country - some people pay a LOT more than that for something unique.

we've got a yellow Monaro, and it looks very nice in yellow too.

Do you have any more details about it, like the interior and mods and stuff?

If it is a factory job (and I hope it is) then whoever bought it has a pretty rare car on their hands. I hope it was someone from Australia and if it turns up on here all the better.

I agree with SA, but even if someone will end up paying paying 30k landed, it is still great value for money.

Kristian, how far over 1,000,000 yen did it go ? 50% or more ? :p

The first week I looked for my car I saw a Grade 5 (yes 5) black 2002 Galant VR4 ... I bid up to 550,000yen and it went for over 700,000yen, so that can give u a hint of wat people are willing to pay for a rare car.

i couldnt justify 10k more for a 'rare' colour though.. 10k would get you a bloody awesome paint job!

True Mitch, but then having a factory colour is usually worth more than any respray 'cause its more thorough, unless they go to the effort of stripping right back to a bare body shell... I'd be very surprised if you got a job like that for under $15k in Aus these days.

I paid more than that for mine, Paul, and mine is substantially older and not in as good condition. But then black manuals are rare as all hell, so what you gonna do? *shrugs*
