Hi everyone,

I've been looking for a while at galant vr4's. I was very interested in Shamren's beast but unfortunately it worked out to be out of my budget once I put it back to stock for NSW blueslip plus rego.

Now I've found a black, stock, manual on the gold coast that was previously on carsales privately but now up from a dealer. I've spoken to the previous owner and the car yard salesman and it sounds perfect for me. The sales guy did say they had to give the engine a good service once they got it and they've put new tyres on it.

I got my cousin to go look at it and he says it looks real neat and tidy. I asked him to go back for a test drive for me but after a week he has failed to do so and failing to answer his phone...

It's stock, 70,XXX k's, manual. It's listed at $16990 but they said they'd sell to me without the warrenty, extended rego and stamp duty etc for a good figure off. I'm from nsw so QLD rego means nothing to me as long as I have enough to drive it home and warrenty isn't a main issue.

My questions are:
what are peoples opinions?
Has anyone dealt with preferredautos?

I'm going upto brissy next week so if all goes well I will hopefully drive it home.

Cheers,
Anthony

Hey Faz

I would suggest you try keeping the warranty, having just bought mine and the alternator gave up, the warranty just saved me $700.
If your going to Brisbane might be worth having a little look at www.importautocentre.com.au in springwood (inbetween brissy and goldcoast). They currentlyhave a 1999 manual galant vr4 there for $18,990, maybe you can screw them down to a better price. If you do decide to take a look let me know before hand, I get some kind of referral bonus :P

Hey mate,

Thanks for the heads up on that car. It's nice, but out of my price range unfortunately. Ive been looking in QLD because there are more avaliable in my price range. I have to factor in the cost of blueslip $100ish, 12months rego $900ish and transfer fees $300-500.

I haven't sold my lancer yet but have a potential buyer (a friend) for $17500. So that is my budget with everything + insurance... :-(

The reason I said that warrenty isn't so much of a worry is because it's a 900km's to travel and most places won't do it unless you come to them.

Hey Anthony,

Preferred is just down the road from my house. I've test driven one from them and it was modifed and fairly well thrashed and the sales guy was pretty slimy but that doesn't mean their cars aren't good :)

If you're around next weekend I'm sure someone from the GC (I think I'm free) could meet you to go for a drive and give a third opinion.

cheers

Lee

in my opinion the guys at preffered are a bunch of idiots (thats saying it nicely) tried speaking to one of them about there cars.... the guy was a wanker.... also most of there cars are thrashed, the few that i took out blew smoke aswell, also saw one at a workshop round the corner getting 'fixed' but was totally buggered....

stay away in my opinion... wait for a personal car or a better dealership

My friend Aaron and i had much the same experience a few weeks back now when we test drove a manual silver Leggie they had in their lot. We went for a strap and came back and the salesman kept hounding us for a deposit

They seem to have some nice and rare spec'd VR4's in their though. The silver PFL manual Galant they have in there is a very good price and in brilliant condition too.

Thanks guys for your help.

The black one is the same price (I can get it for $13,800). My cousin said it looks immaculate... I just don't know how it drives. It was imported 12months or more ago. The owner just sold it to the dealership because he was going away and needed it gone.

Trevor, did u test drive the silver one?

I'm always running the risk of a car like this being thrashed... It's a lottery really.

Lee, that would be tops. I'm looking to go on Monday though as I'm only up from mon-thurs. I haven't booked a flight home yet, this is why I wanted my cousin to test drive it because the later I wait the more expensive flights are! I'm in a bit of a doozy. I dunno what to do :-(

Bummer, I work Mon-Fri in Brisbane so can't help you out.

Trev (godzilla) might be able to pop down in his lunch break as he works about 10mins away. Hope you don't mind me volunteering you Trev :D

cheers

That's kool man, thanks anyway. Ideally I need someone to give me a report before mid this week. I wish my cousin wasn't so unreliable!

Wow, thanks guys!

Trevor I'm PM'ing you now!

Oh thanks Chris! I asked Trevor to get back to me today if possible. I will be intouch if needed :-)

Thanks guys this is helping me out alot!!! I really, really appreciate it!

Good old QLD crew comes through again to help out a prospective buyer!
You guys are great

(Fazzle - QLD crew inspected and helped me out to buy my Lib a while back)

I got wednesday off. Know the guys at Motorman if anything there interest you. Almost across the road from importautocentre. Where i got my black manual series 1 65k's for 16K, I didn't hagle should have tho only discovered the forum after i put a deposit on the car lol

That importautocentre seems to be VERY high priced....when I was looking at Aristo's they were trying to sell 2 of them at around the $20,000 dollar mark when you can buy them private for $13,000 or so. They were just pretty stock standard as well. I would just look around or keep an eye on the sale section of this forum

hey kev how much did you pay 4 your barge im keen 2 get 1 for the missus

Thanks Shamren!

James, I looked at motorman website but unfortunately their galants are out of my pricerange unfortunately even with haggling ($4k over my budget and I need NSW rego).

I had a good talk to Trevor today on the phone and he is going to go and look at the black galant for me thisarvo. Once again Trevor I really appreciate it!

If all goes well and I end up buying a car up this way I might have to try and meet some of the members who have jumped out to help me. I'm only up monday 7th - thursday 10th (either driving or booking a flight as both myself and my girlfriend have to work friday). You all seem like really genuine people! This is all a bit different to the MLGA (mirage lancer) forum community where 20% are genuinely nice people, 10% don't even own a car and 70% want to know how to turbo their car once they get off their P's...

Yeah Trev will do ya right!!!

James -I picked mine up for $13,600 totally stock but they can range from around $11,000 to $25,000 just depending on mods done. Go to www.jzs147.com.au and have a look through as there are a number of people selling on there..also lets you know what to expect from the car...also have a look at www.aus-vip.com for some pretty nice rides.
