Problem: Does this sound like Piston Slap to you?

Hey guys,

My car seems to have developed a strange sound on cold startup. Just turned it on one day and bam there it was.

Sounds alot like piston slap and goes away once the engine is warm. The car has fresh oil in it and runs perfectly fine, just really noisy for the first 10 minutes of driving. The strange thing is that the noise comes after only 30 minutes of being turned off.

Could this be an oil supply issue?

I have made a video of the car running after 8hours of being turned off.

Any ides on this would be great.

Thanks!

Almost certainly the lifters in the heads. There's a procedure for flushing the gunky oil out of them (which helps reduce lifter noise), as well as an additive you can put in the oil to help reduce it further.

I would look at a new set of lifters (like I've done on both my cars) and You'll never need to worry about noises like this again :)

Does seem to be a rather strange sounding lifter noise IMO. It just sounds so irregular and hollow, almost too clunky to be a lifter.

Ive had a spare set of new lifters ready to go in for a while now, just haven't gotten around to it

Doesn't sound like lifters to me...they have a sharp metallic tick which corresponds with rpm, this sounds more like bearing or accessory belt noise.

The high pitched sound is the PS tensioner pulley which is getting replaced tomorrow. The noise in question is the irregular metallic clanging sound. I should also note that it speeds up and down with revs as well. Il use the screwdriverscope to try and see if it's pistons or not

Yeah, doesn't sound like my lifters did at all after watching it last night...Give me a bell if you need a hand fixing whatever the issue is :(
