Hi fellas
So I finally got my car last nite 
And OMG its so awesome I love it, I found myself saying out loud “oh my f(*^n good”
So good
But there are two problems already.
One the clutch seems to slip – I think. I mean when ever the boost comes on while trying to speed up the revs jump by about 500 – 1000 rpm and then drop.
And once I changed from 2nd to 3rd it was definitely slipping for about 2000 rpm or more.
Now any of these is Normal and if not what do you think the problem is.
I don’t want change to heavy duty clutch due to the fact that I rather wreck the standard clutch rather than the gear box ( I learned b mistake on my GTIR )

How many kms are on the clock?

Clutches wear out. My stock clutch went at 70000kms. A few of us are running Exedy Heavy Duty clutches and they're fine. I believe the manual gearboxes can take pretty hardcore clutches before breaking (Gly or bradc can probably verify this).

Tom my clutch let go after less than 1000kms - it was just old and worn out. The stock clutch is extremely under spec-ed for the power of the VR4 - I highly recommend getting an Exedy HD clutch kit (there are links elsewhere to a guy who can supply them cheaply). It feels just like the stock clutch (nice and light) but actually stands some chance of handling the power without ripping apart the first time you launch it...

If you're feeling adventurous, you could get an Evo kit - check out Carsten's (Gly's) informative posts on the subject.

Tomas, the clutch was fine in the car when i had it. Do you rest your foot on the clutch whilst accelerating? I found that if i did this, without knowing it, i would put pressure on the clutch and slightly engage it thus making the revs jump. Ofcourse, an aftermarket clutch would be much nicer but it depends on your budget. I had no clutch slip whne coming on boost in 1st, 2nd or 3rd as you step dad would have seen. He didn't race anyone on the way back to Melbourne??? LOL. Jus kidding.

Ok just got home jumped in and its even worse it barely moves, lucky i found North Melbourne cluch and breaks, the can do Exeedy HD 645 pick up or 780 for HDCB, from what i read i will probably go with HD but if anyone would put up an argument that would be great.

Now i need to find a mechanic to do the job.

My step dad took it Mechanic this morning for inspection for Road Worthy and the list is
Tires
Windscreen (as there is a chip in a lower right side)
Break pads
PArking Bulbs

So its not too bad but he said he is not interested in replacing the cluch ( bummer - as he used to be Peter Brocks Mechanic so he is profesional and very tidy and hones on top of that)

Got no idea where to take it now :(

I wanted to register it for next week but i dont think that i can find a Mechanic near Narre Warren or this side of town to do this feelig like shit from beeing held up as it is such an awesome car.

Dont worry mate all good

It was not too bad when i got it but i took it for a test drive and was going like 80 in second then changed to third and it sliped and even before it it was slipping a bit when boost kicked in.

On another topic i have a big appology to make on behalf of my step dad, he thinks that he might get a speeding fine of 10 km over.
Sorry for the hassle but if you could mail it to us i will sort it out straight away.

Sorry again, and il mail you a small check for the postage.

Hmmm maybe he was having a bit of fun on the way back.

PS now they want to buy it of me lol they love the car that much already :)

Where do you work? My mechanic has done my clutch so he knows what to do. He's in Camberwell, near the train station and Burke Rd. tram. I live in Frankston and work in the city so it's actually pretty convenient for me to take my car there in the morning and retrieve it in the evening.

Not sure if he's up for doing another VR-4 clutch but he does have experience.

Sent you a PM.

Pity that you're not in Hawthorn (Swinburne?) at the moment, you could walk there from dropping your car off. Dunno how you'd get to Phillip Island from there.

I guess he did a good job - how would I tell? The master and slave cylinders did need replacing shortly after the clutch swap, but I have no way of knowing if that was going to happen anyway. I'd been taking my other car to him for 10 years and he's always looked after it.

Labour costs were his standard mechanics rates (was combined with a coilover install so I can't remember how much went towards each bit - probably 8 hours on the clutch). There were complications on mine that he knows how to avoid now, so yours would probably be cheaper. I would still print out the gearbox removal guide and take it in with the car, I don't know if he kept my copy.

Thanks mate

MAster and slave cylinders usualy are to weak to service heavy duty cluch so they do go, i used to have a 180sx and it ( master and slave cylinders) went as well just after a heavy duty kit not the whole cluch system.

I will give your Mechanic a call as i rather have someone do it who has done it before.

Thanks again and soon il see you at one of the meets :)

Heu Tomas.
Dont listen to those guys with magna clutches.
The evo 8 clutch is rated at a much much higher torque so it will last you if you are going to run exhaust boost and ebc mods.
I can tell you that with your young enthusiasm and what sounds like a keen sense to modify it I would definatel get the evo clutch and it is a cheaper option too.
Both GLY and myself have the evo 8 clutch.
He and I run the 6 puck and I can tell you after a bit over 2000kms on the clutch it feels great and has settled nicely as its a bit jumpy for the first 6-800kms but then its great and you can launch it anywhere in the revs and the car goes like ship of a shovel.

Yeh that doesnt sound good. All i want to clear is that it wasn't slipping like that when i had it but must of been about to shit itself! As for the windscreen needing replacing thats a f*****g joke! its not even obstructing the drivers view! Different state though i guess. My mechanic never had a problem with it.

Hahahaha your step dad was fanging it! Yeh thats fine. If/when i receive it all send it your way (thats for sure) lol. However if there is a statement saying i will lose points i will have to deal with it my end first then post it. Dont worry about the cheque, i can deal with postage :) yeh they seemed pretty stoked when they picked it up!

Ok so i tok my car to EVO AUTOS to Daren and so this is the damage

1380 for Exedy HDB clutch and instalation (a bit too much i think)
180 for front and rear pads fitted and supplied "TRW" (this seems very cheap)

Waiting on windscreen quote
waiting on tyres quote ( looking for performance and grip)

What fo you guys think about this?

1380 for the clutch and installation is pretty good. It's a bitch of a job and takes 6-10 hours.
