Does anyone have a part number and manufacturer or dimensions for the rear universal joint? Mitsubishi doesn't list a part because it's a staked type which is supposedly non-replaceable. It can be done.

Can anyone confirm this? My front u-joint just died, would rather not spend $1800usd on a whole shaft from Japan. Any chance it maybe the same as a Eclipse?

Prop shaft for the EC5W/EC5A are longer than the DSM and Evo units.

At $1800, I’ll be having a custom shaft locally made using replaceable joints/CVs.

Hes asking if the Universal joint is common to the eclipse. Not the whole shaft. I.e replace the universal with a locally available (to him) part instead of ordering a whole driveshaft from japan

As above though spicer KS-A652

You said $1800usd, right? Start calling some local drive shaft shops and bring yours in. They might be able to simply change out your yokes to keep shit cheap. Last 2-piece I had made for a project was under $1300usd in 2019.

This one might be close enough.

From manufacturer’s tech page:
GMB 220-0085

Looks like Summit has them listed as special order only at $14.99usd each. Rock Auto shows out of stock.

Did some digging, looks like not-US calls them the GMB GUM85. Multiple web posts from .ru sights confirm the correct fitment on 8G Galant/Legnum rear shafts. Dimensions match above noted values of the Spicer K5-A652 at 22.06/64.50mm. Amayama has them for $9.26usd. Ordered 6 of them because any more and shipping went up another $35usd.

To specifically answer @UMSTunah regarding eclipse. It looks like damn near every Mitsubishi, Including DSMs, use the GMB 220-0081

Summit can’t get them because GMB no longer produces that product.

GMB responded to my inquiry. Out of stock and completely discontinued, so no special run can be made (disposed of forges/dies)

Amayama accepted my order and status shows “ordered from supplier.” They showed 100 in stock in UAE, when I placed my order, now showing 94. So we will see how that goes with fingers crossed.

I’ll break out the laptop tonight and see if I can search/find the US part number for the previously confirmed AU Spicer listing. It’s more difficult because their website assumes the public has the same skill set as the typical auto-zone lackey.

Looking like the best option might be taking the shaft to a shop and having it rebuilt with more commonly sourced yoke/joints.

Has anyone ever tried to get a two-piece shaft made for these cars? My Legnum is in winter storage, so I can’t toss up on my friend’s hoist and play drink the beer while staring at it.

Edit: just found this, I’ll need to research, maybe test fit a friend’s spare stock Evo 8 shaft in the spring.

I ended up finding a used shaft in Canada on eBay...fingers crossed.

At this point I’d be talking to my local driveshaft shop and getting a quote on a custom 2pc shaft, and a simple re-yoke of the current shaft to use 1310’s and never look back.

Might be going this path in the spring.
