sure it's not tappets :)

Does it change with rpm? Is it always happening with the car on regardless on if it is in gear or not?

I have just recently started to hear a noise from my engine bay, it sounds a little like what you have..

I also thought that it was just noisy lifters so i did an oil flush, change and added some MBL8, but it hasnt totally gone..

Im going to have a look at it tomorrow when i get a chance..

it's bloody annoying

You don't want to know what I think about that first post...

We're not psychic mechanics - if you can't give us a better idea of the problem we'd only be guessing. Have you done a full service on your car (new lubricants, filters, spark plugs, leads etc)? What part of the car / engine is the noise coming from?

try pouring water on the a/c & p/s belt... if the noise goes away.. then it could be your belt wearing out and probably the pulley as well.. also do this to your alt belt too.. just in case..

Top or bottom of engine front or rear as there are a lot of pulleys.

if it's not a pulley could be a damaged belt and if it fails it could damage a few expensive parts down there. The front lower tensioner pulley has a tendency to get noisy as it is nearest all the rubbish thrown up from the road but your description of the sound is wrong for it.

ive got a similar problem with my car

it only happens in the morning when its cold, when i first start the car it almost screeches from the alternator belt, thats what ive narrowed it down to,its realy loud when i start it and it idles on 1500 and slowly drops, but once i start driving and the car gets warmer,it goes away

happens every morning, wandering what it could be?

pully prolly has a bit of slack... or is breaking down.

have a look with a spotty and tighten when cold.
