Hi everybody,

5 years ago I introduced myself on here (http://ozvr4.com/forums/showthread.php?1664-GalantFan-nut-freak), but 5 years later it's time to re-introduce as things have changed on my Galant landscape :)

My name is Mark and I live in the Netherlands in the town almost everybody around the world knows for it's cheese: Gouda!

The first Galant I bought was a 2L 6Gen, then another (silver GTi), and another (black one) (GTi too) and I got pulled into the 8Gen maddness called 'VR4' or actually is was (is) a VR2 (VR4 engine in a 1999 V6 N/A having all power on the front wheels). Then there was the Legnum VR4, which we had years of fun with, but sadly crashed half a year ago.

I've now bought a 1997 Galant V6 N/A which leaves us with just 2 Galants: that last one and the VR2.

Done lots of subtle things to it, some easy to find, others not :)

And one of the new addition (the V6 N/A):

THis one will need a bit of welding (wheel arches) and then get a total respray (Pearl White), fender flares, custom front bumper, black leather interior, PFL VR4 side skirts, JDM headlights. All parts needed are waiting to be put on. Now all left is time to do all the work :)

Welcome back mate!

That looks like a monster crash bro, what happened?

The crash was caused because some idiot decided 80km/h was fast enough on a highway where 130km/u max limit was. The misses drove with 4 girls from her sport team back home late in the evening and the car before her managed to just manouvre around that slow car in front, but my wife was just a tad late, only just touched the rear corner of that slow car which put both cars in a couple of 360 spins, touching each other while spinning. The other car (a Peugeot wagon) landed in a ditch on the side of the road. The misses and her teammates were still on the highway, miraculously unharmed and the car was even pointing in the correct direction! They quickly left the car, alarm lights on, and aided to the Peugeot. That french piece of sh*t car was in quite bad shape, worse even: the upper side of the drivers' seat was completely broken off. Flimsy quality as the impacts never were harder than light dents (every body panel on the legnum had a light dent). That driver was a bit dizzy and confused, turned out later he had a whiplash.

Anyways, while the ladies were on the side of the road, someone in a Volvo wasn't looking forward to the road as the attention was drawn to the side of the road and hit the standstill (and thankfully empty) Legnum with over 100 km/h speed in the rear. Up to this point the damage might have been worth fixing, but when that Volvo hit, all hope for the Legnum was gone. Everything was bent and shattered, as you can see. The Volvo driver was unharmed, car completely write off too, but the driver had nothing.

So all and all I think everyone was lucky to walk away alive and (mostly) well. The law here says that any vehicle can use the highway if it is reaching at least 65km/h. This Peugeot driver mentioned that he didn't feel safe to drive faster as he thought something was wrong with his shocks... idiot. Who drives 80 at night on a 130 highway. Nevertheless, it's my wife her fault according to law, so she even had to appear for court to explain how this could have happened. A probational fine was given, should she get into similar situation within the next 2 years she'll have to pay the fine (only 250 euro so nothing dramatic there).

I've requested the wreck to be delivered to my house which the insurance agreed with. We couldn't get it in our garage by brute force / pushing with several guys, so we decided to give the Legnum one last little 10 meter trip on it's own, powered by 3 wheels. And it did! From that point on I wrecked the car upto the last bolt and nut, saving a few bits for the successor (mainly the black leather interior) and sold everything else (engine, drive shaft, gearbox, exhaust and countless little bits and bobs). As there aren't many Legnums here (this one was the second one to be registered), let alone being wrecked it wasn't too hard to get the parts sold. Lucky for me, as it brought back some cash to put into the new car.
