Gidday guys....I am having trouble with my car.
I can feel a difference in driving it now...I am sure it is not me but to me it feels like the car has lost its get up and go...feels like when I am driving around I am draging bricks/handbrake is on/brakes are slightly on etc etc
Could this be the auto gearbox?
I have no warning codes...I have just replaced the factory BOV, I just had a SP3 gear box oil change...I just had brake fluid put in...
I am really not enjoying my car at all anymore and want to find out what could be wrong....Suggestions please!!!

i replied to your PM...

is there any chance the BOV could be leaking? a small leak would give you a performance decrease.

that said too.. my legnum doesn't feel anywhere near as quick as it did when i first had it, unfortunately you get 'used' to the power, and then you get hungry for more...

Kev I'd start by checking to see if your ECU is putting out any error codes. Otherwise find an EVO specialist nearby to take a look at it - they're so close to our cars people who have a lot of experience with EVOs will have the best chance of working your problem out quickly.

it won't be the trans, what fuel have you been running it on? If it detects too much knock it will drop the timing right back. The other common thing as people have already suggested is a boost leak

is it revving but not moving? if so clutch...
is it just feeling sluggish? when did you change the oil? i just done mine again today and the difference was huge... just feels alot more responsive again.

5 had a major service done 2 months ago, just had a gearbox fluid replacement a week and a half ago..I am not sure if the filter was done...I put in some octane boost into the fuel but no difference at all....like I said I just noticed it on monday...was fine before that...BOV was replace on Friday with a 8MR and I am getting some Top Gun plug leads this week so I am covering everything I can think apart from the clutch or gearbox..

I have a problem with my car too. It took me about 11 sec to get to 100km/h!!! It feels like someone holding a brakes. It goes fine till about 70km/h and after it just very slow. I am doing scaning on tuesday. So i hope it will show the problem!

OK here it is... this morning I had my car running for about 5 mins....drove to the onramp to get on the motorway and just cruzed it up and pushed down a little harder to get into traffic and bang the car cut out and then sparked back into life...was not boost cut as I was hardly pushing enough to boost at all.....then later I was heading up Compton Road which has a slight rise and the rev's started to drop even though my foot was same on the gas...car started to judder slightly..very slightly and then the gear droped from 5th to 4th and then it kicked back into life.
WHAT IS WRONG!

It has been like that for 6 months with no problems so it would seem very strange to have a sudden problem on Monday

Kev, what you're describing can really only be one of three things, not enough fuel, not enough oxygen or not firing. The fact that you said your BOV was replaced three days before suggests that could well be causing the problem, or at least contributing to it.

Pete's comment has me intrigued - do you have an aftermarket pod Kev? If so, the BOV you installed will have changed your intake properties a bit, which may well have unbalanced the response from the MAF sensor and thus the ECU calculations. You could either have not enough oxygen reaching the cylinders or (more likely) the ECU's calculations are wrong causing too little or even too much fuel delivery.

If it were my car Kev the first thing I'd be doing is changing the BOV back to stock for testing purposes. Then I'd be putting a stock intake on if I could get hold of one, otherwise a cold airbox like Carsten has with a 1½' straight pipe leading into the MAF. Unless you can afford to install an aftermarket ECU and airflow sensor I strongly recommend against changing the stock intake system before the MAF at all.

The other likely possibility could of course be boost leak, as you'll get exactly the same symptoms.

Good luck dude, but I expect it's relatively simple (and inexpensive) to sort out :)

what you just described (the cutting out, revs dropping even while accellerating) sounds EXACTLY like how my car was when my pipe came off the intake manifold (difference is mine was right off and hence the car wouldnt go further than about 5 - 10 meters... I know you have some custom piping so it would make it harder, but maybe even give it some revs from under the bonnet and try find a leak somewhere... or see if when you release, the car goes to stall, or even does. does it smell rich? cause it could be flooding :p

Another problem ihad once, my exhaust 'collapsed' (the muffler fibreglass came into the piping kinda thing, and blocked it) i noticed by some big piece of fibreglass mesh stuff sticking out the back and the extremely silent exhaust, accompanied by a funny sound when on boost (cant imagine it would have been healthy :()

hope you get it sorted soon, dyno day is coming up xD

I'd check all the intake pipes and the exhaust.

Did installing the BOV make it worse or better?
