hey everybody,

so the clutch is gone on my galant and i need a new one, no biggy BUT this will be the first performance clutch i will buy so,

what do YOU recommend?
what have you used recently?

least favorite?
absolute pigs i should avoid?
type? brass button/twin plate/organic
do the flywheel to?

keep in mind its a daily and its stock and will mostly stay like that for a while

Fair amount of useful information in these threads here and here.

Given that your car is stock and you say it is staying like that for a while, then a standard replacement or Heavy Duty (Magna one) will suffice, and save you a bit of money. However, if your looking at doing some mods sometime soon or start doing some 'spirited' drives, then you'll want to go better then the aforementioned, something like the Evo 7-9 Heavy Duty or Sports Organic as the standard ones are just not up to par as a LOT of us here have found out :(

It all depends on what you want/need. :)

sorry if this is rude but i been wanting to use it for AGES now :P

Nahh it is a legit question :)

I recommend a stock EVO 7-9 clutch and pressure plate. You should be able to find them cheaply and they handle more power than a stock VR-4 clutch. They also feel just like a stock clutch.

I use a heavy duty Japanese Exedy pressure plate for an Evo with an organic disc. It bites like a mofo (enough to snap a hollow shaft in the gearbox!).

I previously had an HDCB and would not recommend it at all. I know of a few people who've had the same problems as I had and other problems I didn't. The other models may be better, but I'm not 100% sure.

to all whom are concerned i know what clutches fit,

the question was, thanks bradc for an answer btw,

what are some clutches (aka brand and model) which are good to drive on, not "will an evo clutch fit"

obviously an evo clutch will be nice and streetable and not kick like a mule, any one else had other types of HD clutches, exedy? os geiken? NPC?

when i get around to buying my clutch ill be getting an Exedy Sports Organic

i think its the same as what Paul (VR-04-TT) is using

cant say anything good or bad about it as i dont have one yet but from what ive read on EvoOz a fair few guys over there think they are great

I've got the Exedy HD clutch kit in mine and it feels just like a stock clutch, with the difference that it can actually handle the power of the 6A13TT, at least in stock form. If I was doing it again I'd go for an aftermarket unit suited to an Evo as they are meant to feel the same but able to handle much greater power. I would avoid a button clutch for a street car personally - they're designed for track / drag use and that's where they should stay IMO; button clutches are an unacceptable tradeoff for driveability AFAI'm concerned.

Like Trev said, don't go a button for street use..... Hill starts are a nightmare! Lol

Go with a HD or an EVO setup, you will thank yourself for upgarding it later ;)

i have a custom rebuilt evo 8 clutch pressure plate (4400lb) with a act 6 puk metallic spring center evo 8 disk,

now that its fully bedded in and I've learnt to drive with it,
its fine for street use, hill starts are an art thou, but i have no problems now.

its my daily driver. no regrets going with a puk clutch.
i know it will handle what i throw at it.
