I couldn't find any brass ones at Super Cheap Auto, Repco or Bunnings so i'm just wondering, will this withstand ATF oil at full operating temperature?
I'm just about to test it by boiling some water in a pot and leaving this connector in there.
I wouldn't count on it. It will probably work for a while and then one day you will loose your transmission. Not worth it for the cost and hassle of a fitting.
Is 8mm about the size of your standard garden hose? If so, you might find one in the gardening department.
Other places to try are plumbing supply shops and Engineering supplies.
Thanks for your reply Ken.
Yeah, you're right.
Here's the test anyway. It withstood the boiling point for over ten minutes.
Not sure how it will handle ATF for a few hours of driving though...
Btw, this is all being done so i can extend the ATF hose from the cooler to the piping as it is quite tight at the moment and on the verge of kinking.
And here's the brass one i got from the plumbers.
I connected it and covered it in hose to protect the pipe from melting the battery tray in case in comes in contact when it's hot.
The brass one is the better choice but you will need to give the hose some sort of grip other wise id there is any spike in the pressure the hose will blow off. All of the connectors you have will have a wedge shape at the end like the plastic one in the first picture. If you have any friends that have access to a lathe get them to knell the ends on the copper connector.
Because i've already put in the transmission cooler and i'm only needing to extend the hose a bit.
The transmission cooler is tucked in behind the front bar. And i'd rather not have to remove the whole front bar just to access the hose clamp it's connected to.
Yo Tom, thanks for the advice bro.
I'll look into getting that done. But for now, the copper extension is on extremely tight and really deep into the entrance of the hose. I've tested it this afternoon at high speed and giving the car a good flogging with boost up and leaks or hoses popping off so far.
Seems pretty solid for now.
