Reinstalling Centre Shaft

The Centre shaft came out after placing in the transfer case, now I can't get it to seat properly against the half shaft spline resulting in transfer case fluid coming out via the driveline. Is there a trick to reassembling the front driveline? Don't want to remove the transfer case if possible.

By all means I'm no mechanic so dont quote me on this but it should be a reasonable amount of effort to get it to sit past the roll pin. I've just put my one back in after replacing my clutch and found I had to rotate it untill it felt about right and give it a couple of taps with a rubber mallet
