Hi all,

Finally figured out how to use the remote engine start (press the red button then hold the "lock/start" button on the funny radio-looking remote) BUT once running, if i touch ANYTHING (open door, put key in ignition, ANYTHING AT ALL) the engine cuts out. WTF? Anyone able to enlighten me? And for some reason it only seems to want to work while the engine is already warm...

I would google what model you have and look for a manual mate. I am sure you would be able to change the settings.

I had a look through my japanese manual, couldn't see any pictograms about it at all... but then cant read japanese, maybe there just werent pics...

Could it be immobilising to stop it being knocked off?

Mine cuts out the remote central locking once started and will stall the car if the brake pedal is pressed.

I am sure you would be able to configure the kill switch or remove them. Sounds like they have it hooked up to a power source that triggers when anything is touched.

So... Mitsu integrated a remote start which just makes you start the car twice?

It isn't a Mitsubishi unit. I don't know of any cars with a factory remote start. If i switch to "ON" using the key and hit the brake, then engine keeps running. There must be some way to make yours do the same.

this one is a genuine mitsu unit.... diamond imprint in the case and all!

Well there you go, get out of your corner! First i have heard of a dealer remote start.

I would try and get my hands on a book somehow. Surely you could email Mitsubishi JP and they can help you out.

The point of a remote start is NOT to get the engine started, and drive away.

Its for people living in cold climates, like Japan, who want to get the engine on their car started on a freezing cold morning, and get the HEATER running, to warm up the inside of the car, while you're still getting dressed after your early morning shower.
That way, you can get into the car when it's already warm, and drive to work, without having to freeze for the first five minutes while the heater warms up.

You hit the remote start from inside your house, and the car starts, warms itself up, and then you can go outside and get in. Yes, it cuts the engine as soon as you touch anything, to prevent theft. Once you get in, you then re=start the engine as normal.

mine came with one too, same remote, and I have the book for it as well somewhere, all in japanese of course.

could never get it to work though....
