Is it possible to replace the A/T in a Galant spec S with a M/T from a spec V as only the spec S has the AYC and thats what im after in a Galant with M/T. And how much you think would cost me!!! I mean has it ever done before! :001_huh:

I reckon it could cost over 1k for the gearbox/cluth and up to 1k in labor aswell, and probably another 1k when nothing goes to plan :P
thats just a stab in the dark though.

@ Ohe, not sure if anyone in Oz have ever done it.. I know Madhav's in the process of acquiring parts for his car.. so shoot him a pm.. also whether its coming from a S1 or S2 (Type V or S - for Legnum) it doesn't matter.. since you're only after the Clutch pedal assembly, master cylinder, gearbox, flywheel, hydraulic pipe for the clutch fluid, and maybe the gearbox side mount..

@ Chris, might cost more than that though.. preferrably.. buy a manual half cut (usually cost $2500).. so that you get all the parts needed to complete your conversion then sell the rest of the parts.. which most likely will get your money back at least $1000..

when doing this.. might as well drop the whole engine and box together.. do the major service (timing belt, waterpump, bearings, etc), install the clutch pedal assembly then put things back together.. then you'll be laughing...

Its been done before, it's being done right now for me. I have all the parts and am half way thought the conversion now.

The whole type V against type S thing, and the AYC diff I can't answer, but in regards the the whole operation yes it's possible.

If you have the space and the know how, then yeah go for the half cut, it will save you a lot of money and more than likely make you money or at least pay for your labour of the install.

In terms of costs, it depends on where you get the parts from:

Half cut/manual conversion kit say at least $2k
Decent clutch $400-800
Labour... hmmm.... at least 8-12 hours work, so maybe $1000 min

But yeah, you could get it back from selling parts.

Mine is supposedly, according to the mechanic, ready next week (although I really doubt it)

If you had spent long enough searching you would have found out that the prefacelift manual Galants have AYC.

If you really want a facelift manual then you will have to do the conversion from an auto to a manual. I agree with the other prices, it will be about $3000 or so.

Well, i also wanted to do the conversion when i swapped my engine!! But the thing was the guy i went to told me that i would have to find a rear diff aswell since there is a different power ratio in the manual and the auto!! And also he quoted me 2200 for everything making it look like a genuine manual he even changes the speedo and all that + the engine swap as well at that time..!! He is only doing Mitsi Evo's so i thought he might know what he is talking about!!! I didnt have the cash or the time to spend find a rear diff so delayed the project of going manual!!!

You don't need a rear diff or transfer case to do the conversion. The guy does not understand mitsi drivetrains if he thinks you need to change it. The final drive is inside the transmission, the transfer case speeds this up to go to the rear, then the diff slows it down by the same amount.

@ since you're only after the Clutch pedal assembly, master cylinder, gearbox, flywheel, hydraulic pipe for the clutch fluid, and maybe the gearbox side mount.....

Oh well i have the manual gearbox and the fly wheel with me!!! So im lacking only few parts!!! Gee..... I should have done it at the time i swapped the engine!!! May be I should add this to the wish list for the new year!!!!!

i might be speaking out of turn here but..... buy a manual in the first place??

but if he wants series 2 with AYC and manual he'll still need to do the conversion

I was thinking about getting an auto s2 and then converting to MT, but really, I'm just too lazy :P
