compare that oil 'deposit with your oil from the oil filler hole at the top.. if they're similar then most probably it is..
about the cv boot.. they're ok to replace.. abit fiddly since you have remove some parts.. then you'll have to pull out the axles..
once removed you'll then have to put up with the sticky grease that's in it.. and clean it of course..
try calling up cv joint australia.. there's one in randall st. slacks creek.. that's where my dad usually go to, also i think they do work in exchange basis..
