Just got a question to ask as i couldn't find any info when i searched.

With a automatic what should the RPM idle at "P" ? And what should it idle in "D" (if it makes a difference) ? Obviously when warned up (normal temp)
I know alot of people here are going to have different RPM to each other, but roughly what is normal ?

The reason i ask is when i got my car back after replacing the gearbox i noticed it thumps hard when i put it in drive or reverse and also the RPM felt higher, it got to the point that it got to annoying so cleaned a few parts and swapped over and still the same so i set idle screw lower and car obviously idles lower but its not rough (or shakes) and now shifts into drive and reverse nicely.

My car is the 7th Gen Galant but hopefully the 8th Gen Galant/Legnum should help as a rough guide.

Idle
Should be between 650-750rpm. Mine is a manual. It's all electronically controlled anyway.

Hmmm, 650 in drive ? mine is about 650to700 in "P" once its at normal temp and once i put it in "D" its about 300rpm.
Im going for a drive now, so when i come back i can put the proper figures, but saying all that my car feels normal with those RPM no shakes or anything and shifts smoothly.

So when you guys say 650 roughly in "D" then what RPM do you guys have in "P" ?

Most auto (in my experience) will attempt to achieve the same target idle in park or drive. My daily (4g93 auto Lancer coupe) does.

After a drive i checked, mine is between 650 to 750 in Park, and when i put it in Drive its about 300ish, i even turned on the headlights and heater to really test how low it go's and if it idles rough but with all that turned on it sits between 250-300ish and no shutter or rough idle and with headlights & heater off about 300rpm.

So i take it that should be okay if everything shifts smoothly.

Also VOLK, im not sure what you mean but same target in P & D ? I always thought that when its in "P" it will idle alittle higher than it in "D" Unless i misread your post ?

Because i just checked out my friends 2014 SRT8 Jeep and it idles alittle higher in P than in D.

I think my main concern was if its 300ish idle if that is a problem ? Because car runs fine, actually pretty good compared to what it was when gearbox was first put in, and i cant even remember what it was before gearbox was installed to compare.
I know mine is a 1994 compared to the newer shape like most people here, but if the car is fine should i be worried ? 3 days so far and feels excellent especially compare to when gearbox was first put in.

You read correctly. Same rpm in both, ISCV will step out to account for drag of torque converter etc. No idea about all other autos but that's what I've witnessed.

Sounds like the iscv isn't opening enough in drive. Should still be 650ish
