Hi guys, just registered over here from CVR4.

Anyway, my Legnum has been sitting for a few days on the grass and we have had some rain. Took the car out today, and found that there was water in the passengers footwells (front and back). Pulled up the carpet, and found that there is a bit of rust in the front footwell. Have attacked it with a rust stopper, and sprayed under the car with underbody sealer.

I can't see where the water could have come from, is this a common problem with these cars? And is there anything else I could do to stop this happening?

Thanks.

No sunroof... the seals on the door seem to be OK, just checked them now. Can't see any sign of where the water is coming from, so it's a bit of a mystery...

Just a shot in the dark here, but is there a grommit/plug under the carpet in the Legnums? Maybe it's coming in through a loose one of those. On second thought probably not, water wouldn't come in a hole like that unless you were driving in the wet.

check where the o2 sensor's wire goes into.. that's one way for it to come in from..

But if the car is sitting and not being driven, the water won't be coming in through the O2 or other holes on the bottom. It has to be coming through air con ducts, door seals, etc.

Hmm, that's what I was thinking... I did wash the car the other day too, so maybe the door was open a crack or the water came through the A/C vents down onto the floor?

Although if it came through the A/C vents, the other side would be wet too... but the driver's side is completely dry.

Any moisture around the edges of the windscreen? Or the bottom of the door? I'm thinking a window seal might be leaking.

No moisture around the windscreen, or around the bottom of the door from what I can see... the door seal is a bit dirty so I might clean that up a bit. Will check if there are any holes behind the front guard, if there are I will seal it up.

Currently have a heater going full bore drying out the carpet and the interior, the rust is going black (as the stuff says it is meant to do - changes it from rust to black primer) so after that I might seal it up with the same under-car sealant.

Any chance the heater matrix is leaking. Has the engine coolant level dropped

well, i might be worng but you know where the water runns off from the windscreen to the edge of the bonnet and it goes between the side gards and the engine bay? when i did the stero wiring, it seems that it was very close to the cabin area ( just like most of the cars) and i m thinking if previouse owner sort of used that channel to do some wiring wrongly or was not repaired properly with accident, water might run through there.. just my thoughts.
