Hi Guys,

Found a S2K push button start while I was cleaning up my garage. I forgot all about this little mod that supposedly to be install when I had my Ralliart Magna.

Has anyone here and either in UK and NZ done this mod? I know is RICE but its kinda add a bling

I made one for my Datsun 1600. Just cut off the two wires that short out when you start the car with a key and wired them into a button.

Thread mining.

So has anyone done this to their vr4?

Yeah, I'm with the other guys, whats the point if you still have to put the key in and turn it, you might as well turn it that little bit more.

Now if you were to wire up some sort of transmitter/receiver unit type setup so all you needed to do is jump in the car and hit the button, THAT would be cool.

But, if you still wanted to go ahead with this, it isn't really that hard to do, solder a wire onto your started wire and earth wire and then attach to your button, then you can use the key and/or the button. Would probably be wise to run it through a relay too, unless your button can handle high current.

I like start buttons. I sort of want one for my Silvia. Maybe it is because I really want an S2000. I dunno.

my sisters corolla has a start button. you dont need a key to open any of the doors or start the car, just have the transmitter in your pocket and its all good

i hav had a similar idea, but also utilizing an aftermarket smart key from the states.

basically, walk up to the car, it unlocks

hop in, slide a the plastic fob into a slot on the dash and its all systems go,

then press/hold the engine start button and away you go.

will upload pic to explain in a tick

EDIT:

ok see the pic

so fob out = electronic kill

fob in = keys switched to on

start button will then start the car

could be a good thing...maybe Im on drugs...who knows

EDIT2:

maybe ad in a switch to flick between ACC and ON

I'm in the process of fitting a Pivot start button now (flame suit on by the looks of this thread). I think they are kinda cool. I'm just trying to figure out which wire is which at the moment

I'd also like to hook up some kind of proximity sensor/transponder too, but one thing at a time.

if you gonna do an ACC/ON switch paulie, make sure it's a military rocker!

I'm pretty dumb, but I'm pretty sure you'll need to have some type of relay or dropping resistor. Surely if you are switching a positive straight to earth/negative, it's a short circuit? That would kind of induce short circuit currents wouldn't it?

Ps if you want some of those switches give me a buzz, use them with work. Call them the nuc. Buttons! :)

Switches? Buttons? I got those things. :p

... yes Paulie, I will eventually finish the chair! I promise!

I drove a Z4 the other day with push button.... It was ghey. Still had to use the key AND THEN start it. I would be sick of it after a week I reckon!

My wife's Suzuki Kizashi has proximity sensing door locks and a keyless push button start. It's actually useful if you keep your keys in your bag like she does, because you never need to search for them. Just push a button on the door handle to unlock, get in, start car.

It senses the presence of the key to within about a metre, and can tell if the key's inside or outside the car.

For those of us who keep keys in our pockets, it's less useful because you'd be taking your keys out to sit down anyway.
