But TBH, what i've seen is SA used to have a lot of large cruises which almost always ended up in crashed cars from hero's trying to hard.
What we need is just general meet and greet poser style events. Hills runs with large groups simply don't work. JDMST meets seem to be all about just getting together, sharing stories of rides etc, without specifically putting on a "display" such as All Japan Day.
Start this type of event, and I think people will show.

The problem is what Steve said and also people being targeted by the cops; someone who has poured thousand after thousand into their car, why risk a defect on a cruise, all it takes it one dude to do something dumb and you're all f**ked. It's not so bad if you drive something with coilovers and wheels sure swap them for regency it's okay but for other people it can mean a different story.

If people could be trusted to turn up, behave and just enjoy the day it would be great, but there is always one or two try hards who have to do something really stupid, cops get angry and then it all falls in a heap.

Yeah it's the minority who ruins it for everyone. I disagree that cruises 'almost always ended up with a crash'. I used to go to weekly meet ups and cruises and only ever saw one crash. It wasn't even due to someone being stupid but driving at night and not seeing a branch on the road.
If it got organised people would definitely come. Just need to make sure no commos show up as that's the type of crowd who ruins these things.

I made reference to the large type cruises, not the weekly meetups. And there was almost always collateral damage of one kind of another - i'm not referring to crashed cars requiring a tow.
My thoughts - Monthly meet, poser spec at some decent carpark (preferably undercover) with property owner consent seems to be what works interstate. Notify the police that people want to meet/talk (same as All Japan Day) and notify all that come that rego WILL be notified to police for stupid behavour. This format should be followed for SA and then I think we'd find a greater rate of people bringing out their cars. You would see variety each month as not everyone will always make it along and make no part of it motion - static events

The problem with things like that, is even though the cops know about it and are trying to cooperate, they still hand out defects and harrass people. Threatening people that number plates will be given to police and all that negative stuff, it's basically saying we don't trust you and we're accusing you of being a hoon before you even get here. Guilty unless proven innocent. This attitude has made everyone just go 'stuff it, can't be bothered'.
What used to work was a meet up on a Friday night (as people are more likely to be free than on the weekend). Just a casual meet up in a public carpark where you don't need permission from the owner or cops. Then chat for a few hours and maybe go on a cruise if enough people want to. As soon as this casual feel was replaced with 'you're a hoon, we're watching you, cops will be there', it died.

To be honest, I never really attended the casual friday meets as often.
I was looking at the format that works interstate - everyone knows the rules and seems to stick to them. However, I understand your point about cops being notified scares some people away etc... maybe in SA we simply dont have enough cars to make meets work when rules are in place?

If a car is that easy to be defected it should be that particular drivers problem, if they don't want to go they don't have to or they can trailer it in. On top of that it doesn't cost a lot of money to get a days rego for car shows. A mate does it for All Japan Day with his drift car if he can't trailer it in.
How are the JDMST meets organised? I understand they do them monthly. I can't watch that video as I'm at work.

Have you been to Service SA recently? the name is an oxy-moron... service SA??? geddit? i'd rather needles put into my eyes than have to go there again. Waiting times, inconsistant information depending who you get, people who are just rude.
The couple of times i've needed a day pass when i first got my galant was a pain. i got the third degree about why, who, what, etc and that was only to go for a tier 2 inspection. hate to think if you actually wanted a day pass for something like going to a meet.
Then there was when I finally passed identity check, dealing with them is just a pain. In fact have plenty more stories with my previous cars... In fact, everytime i go, i walk away with another story. Same applies to my mates too. we should all get together and write a book.

Anyways, as stated already - cruises died out ages ago! and there is the stereotype that if you've got modded car, that your instantly a hoon. So i dont bother and grew out of it.

I guess we'll have to live with one Japanese car meet a year then.
It's a shame, as every All Japan Day goes really smoothly. Everyone cooperates and only one car got defected this year (and he only caught the attention of police because he lit it up right next to them). It'd be rad if they just made it biannual or something. It's not like there is a shortage of entrance, there were something like 200 cars at this years. And I wouldn't mind looking at a lot of them again.

Last week of each month catch up on a Friday or sat night. Then do a cruise out away from cops and no wanks, would be good and could work?! Just needs to be supported and organized that's all who would be in for that???
