depends what you're getting done I guess. I haven't had any major work done so it's been quite reasonable. Mind you timing belt change for my car requires engine out so I imagine that will be quite costly :S

I would give up having close mechanics to live in the hills anyday :)
Beside's, they seem pretty inept all over when it comes to our cars :p

Hey this idea is almost crazy enough to work, but maybe if the numbers are right and we have a few experienced people (which I'm not) get together at the one place and do a mass service... We may be able to save a bob or too by buying things in bulk i.e. Amsoil Oil, trans fluid and filters...

Anyway just putting it out there...

Mac Dog - I do my own servicing (oil, filters, spark plugs etc) and most mechanical repairs.
However, I did have the trans serviced first time by MV Automatics. Mike was very helpful, but it wasn't cheap because my trans was in rather poor condition (fluid wise) and took a LOT of fluid to flush it clean.

Matt - I could be interested in Amsoil group buy here in SA for engine oil. keep me posted if you can contact them because I emailed the SA contact with no response :(

Yeah no probs... The Amsoil guy is quite a character.... He's an ex mechanic and lives in Mount Barker, he's eccentric at the least but in turn a nice fella...

When I bought Oil of him he met me in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital carpark just before he went in for dialysis...

Weird... How much was your trans service?

EDIT: when I get it :p

Trans service was $220 in the end. Quoted price was $195 ($135 for normal fluid change & Filter, $60 for flush). However due to the state of my trans, it took a LOT more fluid to flush it clean, therefore I had an extra $35 worth of fluid to flush it.

How much did you pay for 5L of the 0w/30 (presuming thats what you bought previously)?

Mike is renowned among many as one of the best in Adelaide. He has built many street/strip auto's for not only V8's, but Skylines - he was the first to develop a shift kit for the Nissan 4sp Auto, very experienced guy, HIGHLY reccommend him even if he is a little dearer than elsewhere. I think you get what you pay for with him ;)

Dion - Transmission specialist. Didn't ask about AYC as I'll probably do that myself using the guide on here.

ill be most likely using S&J at edwardstown (the only place i ever took my wrx too when i owed it!) as they service and tune evo's so they would be well familiar with the AYC set up. Sean is a friggin legend!
