Hey Guys,
This is my Call to Arms for all fellow Oz VR4 members to help me help a very worthwhile cause.
I have entered a team into the 2012 Shitbox Rally. This is a fundraising event for the Cancer Council.
My team (Team Trofeo) will be 1 of 150 teams driving in (well supposed to be driving in) sub $1000 motor vehicles from Melbourne to Cairns in April 2012.
The team will be made up of myself and my long time friend Andrew Carra. Andrew has spent many years in racing, including competing in Targa Tasmania.
As yet we have not decided what vehicle we are going to take on the rally, but we do intend to honour the rules and spirit of the event, and it will be something cheap and exciting.
The actual route for the 2012 event will be starting in Melbourne and heading north up through country Victoria, on to where Murray and Darling Rivers meet then continuing North and into remote central Australia where 10 metre sand dunes will meet us as part of the harsh but incredibly beautiful countryside. We will hit 3 states in as many days with a trip up part of the Strzelecki track that will deliver us into the welcoming arms of Innaminka and their famous pub. From here our 4th state awaits – Queensland, where after another day the countryside will start to get greener before we hit cane fields and the tropics of our destination – Cairns.

I need to raise a minimum of $4000 in donations to the Cancer Council to be eligible to run in the event. I am sure that my friends from OzVR4 will provide me with some assistance to reach this target, or even go beyond.

The name Team Trofeo comes from the Alfa Romeo Owners CLub annual 6 Hour regularity race run at Winton Park Raceway in October every year. I joined this team to participate in the event last year. The other member of the team in the Shitbox Rally, Andrew Carra, has participated in this team in the event for many years.
