This is for anyone who has rebuilt these before, on any car. Before inserting the springs/seals/piston section, do you need to rub brake fluid on the inside of the bore and over the seals like you do with o'ring seals, oiling engine cylinder bores etc?

Cheers!

where do you get the clutch master cylinder rebuild kits from?

I just took them apart and then to a local brake and clutch specialist. They replaced all the seals for me and to save cash, I'm putting it all back together myself. I've got them done now.

Cost me $17 all up :D Apparently the seals are nothing special or hard to get, which is good news!

I have taken a few different ones apart before but it was a while back now so my memory is vague. But if it was me, yes I would would give them a smear first.

That's what I ended up doing...I figured it can't hurt as they will be swimming in it when they're in the car.

Cheers :D

any tips for pulling them apart and putting it back together? any tricks i may need to know? seems mistsubishi love making things allot harder than they need to be

Did the shop say which model car the seals came from? HJ galant maybe?

There wasn't anything particularly hard about it. The only part I had trouble with was getting the piston section back into the master cylinder because of the circlip(sp?). But I just rigged up a few G-clamps together to hold it steady while I got the piston, washer and circlip in.

The slave is dead simple, you basically just push the piston back in (slowly and carefully, of course). There's nothing to it.

They didn't say, unfortunately...and I think I've thrown out the receipt, but I will have a look around. They did say that the parts were pretty generic and there were no issues getting them.

Just on looking, the slave cylinder looks very similar to a magna unit, but without one next to me it's hard to be 100% sure.

Might have to resort to taking the master cylinder to the brake /clutch place once I have it out.

Was yours leaving external or internal?

I have no external leakage, but my friction point changes, upto 50mm (at a guess, which makes driving a 5 puk clutch rather challenging)
