Hey guys, I have noticed that me box is slipping slightly (more like a longer shift time than a real slip) but only from 2nd to 3rd on the way up, every other shift is spot on as are the down shifts, anyone ever had this problem??
I havent changed the fluid since I got it but have checked it and the levels are fine.
It seems to do it more when cold or at light to medium throttle, less noticable at full running temp and hard on it, but still there :(

change the oil to Amsoil ATF or Mitsi SPIII and reset the ecu and see if it changes

Odd you should mention that, I only noticed it after my Alt. was fixed, so i wonder if it has anything to do with the ECU being reset when the battery was disconnected for that? :)

Dexron III is WRONG. It will cause the shifts to be too harsh and kill the gearbox

mitsi diamond queen atf .....

the mitsi stuff IS special, as its HFM atf,

HFM = Highly Friction Modified,

the only off the shelf (and only a very seclect few here in NZ) sell something compatible/better .... AMSOIL,

other ATFs are not compatible with the ATF/AYC (and will cause issues down the road),
and will need HFM additives, such as LubeGard HFM additive,
and have to be mixed very accurately or you could run into problems

I have that too when it's cold, the shift is slightly delayed and the engine revs slightly as if slipped out of gear and then kicks hard when going into 3rd (this is while driving it the way a cold car should be driven... gently!!). Fine though once up to operating temp.

Do these gearboxes have bands that ever need tightening?

they have clutch packs which ware out and start to die... then a full rebuild is needed

I noticed over the last few days my auto has been taking it's time to shift into gears, like revving in between. I initially thought, "oh great my auto is on it's way out!" However I did some research here on the forum and found the info on the absolute necessity of having the right fluid. i.e. Diamond Queen SPIII.

So I called my local mitsubishi dealer about what fluid they filled it up with after they did the Trans flush a couple of weeks ago, and sure enough they informed me it was one that they make up themselves, i.e. not the right one!

So I am booked in with another flush and trans fluid change for free tomorrow and I am hoping that this will fix the problem. If it doesn't.... well, maybe I can blame them and demand them to fit a new transmission for me free of charge.

i have the same problem!!!

is that means the cluths going to die? or just need to change the atf , after that can solve the problem?

btw: not a manual .. its a semi-auto

cheers

I dont know, I'm hoping the latter, as in by changing the ATF to the correct one it will solve the problem.

I just went to drop my car off this morning to the mitsu dealer, and when I got there they reneged on their fault! Said that they made a mistake yesterday when I spoke to them, and that they initially did put the right fluid in, and therefore the problem must be with my trans.

I don't know what to do.... cause if there really is a problem with the Auto, it's gonna cost an absolute fortune to fix it via them, probably better to get a 2nd hand manual trans fitted.

Any recommendations on how to go about solving this problem?

I wouldn't believe them with the fact they changed their story!! Get them to flush it again with SPIII and see if there is a difference; this will prove they did use the wrong spec fluid the first time. Then if there is damage you can hit them up for a rebuild. Remember though, doesn't matter who the mechanic is, trying to get them to accept responsibility will be like getting blood out of a stone.

Best wishes with getting it sort bloke!:)

madhav, make sure they put in mitsi sp3 and tell them that you'll pay them if it fixes the problem. If it doesn't you need to get it looked at, and you know what that means....$$$$

v212345, did they use sp3? reset the ecu and see what happens

Yeah I ended up booking the car in at a different Mitsu workshop, just told them I want the trans flushed using diamond queen sp3, nothing else, if this doesn't fix it, then I'll move onto the next stage.

hi brad, at the list is "MMSP3" transmission fluid , the staff said that is the genuine mitsubishi atf oil . i have no idea if its the Dimond Queen.

now i am going to reset the ecu , see what happen .

But the staff said that i need to do the flush again bcz the fluid is reallyyyyyy dirty.
