I have a 5 speed automatic and it seems quite sluggish in low gears (a time between changes) and seems to want to drop gears pretty quickly when slowing down, is this normal or is it something I need checked? Gear fluid replaced?

Thanks for the help guys!!

Bit of a gearbox service might be in order. Does this happen only when its cold or after it has warmed up? Might be indicate potential upcoming problems, if you got it from a dealer, id take it back to them (If qld has statutory warranties like sa)

probably worth replacing the oil and resetting the ecu because you don't really know what is in there at the moment and how long it has been in there for either!

Kevin its a dead easy job to replace the AT fluid and its amazing what a diffrence it can make. I'd explain it all but I dont have the time rite now, best of heading over to cvr4 and reading one of their guides. I think the SP-III was around $30 for 5ltr from Mitsubishi, and you probably dont need to worry about the filter for now. Keep us posted on your progress.

Still got em, but now I'm just topping up my fluid each day before I hit the road. Expensive, yes. But I'm waiting on all the parts I need to do the whole job so there isn't much I can do until then.

I have my car in the shop now...apparently the oil was really really dark and the guy is going to flush it a few times to get it back to right ... I am going to have a look at one of these Transmission Coolers...anyone else got one from WA?

I think this is something I need to do. People recommend the genuine Mitsubishi oil only? Dealership the best place to buy? Also, is there a filter? If so, what are the part numbers/names of the oil and filter I need.

Thanks fellas.

Where did you get your transmission serviced Kevin? Mitsubishi dealer?

After much hunting around I couldn't actually find an ATF filter and according to Bradc and Gly some of these cars did and some didn't come with one. So dont stress about it to much, as for the fluid just drop into a mitsy dealer and pick up a few litres of the SP-III.

not all of them came with atf filters,
there is no defined time when they were added/removed, appears to be completely random.

some beleive it is internally filtered, but may require a full strip down to get to them??

yep the diamond queen atf from mitsi is best, either that or amsiol atf which is better but more $$,
these are the only 2 i would recommend

the problem with dextron atf is its not HFM (highly friction modified)
you can buy aditives to add to it to make it suitible, (lubegard HFM additive)
but theres no point because it ends up costing more, and it has to measured correctly or you will have either a slippery tranny or one that jerks,

it seems to be that more prefacelift auto's have the filter, but there doesn't seem to be an exact system. I wouldn't worry much about not seeing a filter.

I got my transmission done in Acacia Ridge by I think it was called Advanced Transmission Specialists on Bradman

nobody wants a slippery tranny! :(

will shift kitting these boxes help strengthen them a bit?
i'd be looking into one when i get my car, anyone know what they are worth, and where to get them?

ideally id like to install the shift kit, oil cooler, and get it flushed all in one hit.

If you were in SA I would direct you straight to MV Automatics. Mike does some amazing work and is very highly regarded.

So I take it you would recommend them given your result. Acacia Ridge is very handy to me. How much to change the AT fluid? Do you know if they reset the ECU? Do you know if they used the Mitsubishi fluid everyone recommends on here?
