I am currently scouring the country for a legnum VR4. Think I have found one I like but have a few questions...

I am in NSW, the car is unregistered, complied in QLD; what are the suggestions as to how I get it registered in NSW?? I would rather not buy it unregistered and truck it to Sydney.

Happy days

Kylie :)

Have it register in QLD. Drive it home then have the rego transfered.

Welcome to the forums! I bought my Leggy from QLD and i live in NSW so i had to get the registration transferred. The car had 6 months rego still on it so the RTA suggested I just drive the car until it's almost out of rego and then get it transferred. It cost a couple hudred for transfer fee though when i did register it in New south, which was a bit rich.

Thanks Mortz....So the normal stamp duty when you changed it into your name (withing 14days)...then a few hundred fee when you changed rego from QLD to NSW? And did you just need a $50 blue slip..or a different inspection from the RTA? Ta muchly.

I needed a blue slip as well, which meant an inspection at a local mechanic. He basically looked at the car and ticked off the form pretty quick. Rego was also quite expensive (like $500 or so) as they said the cars relatively large weight added some fees. Expect no change from $700 after rego, stamp duty, blue slip and new plates. Makes me wonder why our suburban roads are so shocking when we pay a fortune to get a car on the road.

My mate moved to NSW from QLD and is keeping his car registered in QLD because it is a few hundred cheaper per year :P

Maybe register it there and keep it registered there LOL..

Otherwise yeah do what the guys have said :)

Good luck with it! And welcome!

Huge thanks guys, and to Kitty's VR4 who answered more questions....all sorted now. Just need to find 'the' car and I am set. I agree, with all those fees, our roads should be better! It's back to dodging pot holes for meeeee :)

Happy to help Smileymertz,

Any other questions let us know..

Plus, welcome to the group

Can't you get a temporary permit to drive it for a couple of days and then register it when you get back to NSW?

Welcome to OZVR4.

As Trev suggested, you can get a permit to drive the car unregistered, but you will need to get one from QLD's motor authority (RACQ?), and NSW's motor authority (RTA). You'll need to tell the NSW RTA, not sure about QLD, where your stops will be, how long you'll be driving for etc. It's a massive pain in the butt and there's no guarantee they'll say yes either.

Honestly, you'd be better off spending the $500 odd it'd cost to get it on a truck as it'll be insured as well. I had my car trucked from Adelaide to Sydney and all was well.

Good luck in your hunt!

Heya Kylie, welcome to OZVR4.

I had Loki shipped from Brissy to Melbourne (using TOLL) and had organised through VicROADS (our equivalent) a temporary 30 day permit (was for $36) so I could drive it to get things done such as brakes, etc for roadworthy.

Have fun with it!

Add a nice lil White S1 Legnum to the NSW list.
Hope your enjoying your trip home with it.
Get the camera out and post some pic's in the
Members Rides thread the second you get back.

Heeeyy. Thanks everyone! A few hiccups, but hopefully all will be ok when we pick it up this arvo, drive it to Lismore on a permit/green slip/insured, get a blue slip and register it in NSW ASAP!

Can't wait to meet everyone who is as crazy about these cars as us! LOL

Photos up soon. :)
