Hi Guys,

Does anyone have any ideas about whether Jap Sports Auto in Preston Melbourne are good an trustworthy?
I was out there recently and their sales guys just about talked me into importing a legnum but I've never imported a car before so I was hoping for a couple of testimonials?

Last time I spoke to them, they told me I could not test drive a vehicle they had in the yard... without paying a deposit on it first...

With an attitude like that, I never looked at their stock again.

Dude, do the smart thing, and talk to Kris (Iron Chef) Not only will he be cheaper, but he will look after you!

If you buy through Jap-Sports, You'll be paying a massive premium due to the fact that they are dealers, and have to mark up prices to cover rent, electricity, wages, insurance, licensing fees, etc etc etc...
 
fair enough, but Iron chef is in SA, and I would like to stay in Vic if possible...
 
It doesn't matter where you are located relative to Kristian (or any importer). Lots of people on here from all over the country have dealt with Kristian. All positive experiences from what I can tell (as long as you don't leave him alone in the garage with an R35 GT-R... :p)
 
I went with J-spec imports to get my S2 Galant
I saw the car arrived for compliance last week, checked it all everything looks nice and genuine. :D
Havent got a chance to test drive it yet but.

So far the service from Ben are pretty good, everything went smooth, i got what i wanted, price is better compared to what you have to pay if you buying it from car dealer.

From car dealer you'll pay much more, but you can test drive and have a look at the car yourself.

But importing it from ironchef, j-spec, other agent will be the same thing, since they give u detailed pics of the car, u pretty much can see the condition of the car.

I'm in sydney and he looked after me fine. I got to go see my car as soon as it arrived at the compliance shop which was local to me.
 
Jsa are scum.
I went there looking to test drive a legnum they had AGES ago , the bloke had blood on his shirt and a broken hand.
The place is run by scum.

i deal with them for everything..
real genuine ppl..
 
haha car dealers, i walked in to one with cash in hand, "ill give you X amount right now for this car, no questions, right now" it was a 3g drop and he hadnt sold a car in two months, he said he couldnt budge on price. i walked off
 
Not that this really helps the original question but i've used Iron chef twice now in 1 year. Great both times and i'm in NSW

they are ****ing expensive though!

i went to see them about 6 odd months ago, back when they were on the whitehorse road side of rooks rd. went in on a saturday morning to have a squiz at a caldina i had my eye on, the thing would have been an auction grade 4.5 easily, it looked new to say the least but they were chasing $20000 for it.

the service was tip top, was greeted by this pommy bloke that said he wasnt a salesman, just looked after the place on saturday mornings, he was really switched on about caldinas, let me have a rummage through the car and check it out.

ive heard good and bad things about them but i suppose everyone has their own opinions and experiences with car dealearships
 
How much does their service cost relative to the forum sponsors? Most dealers i've seen cost more

If you want to import, use a reliable broker like Iron Chef, J-Spec or Prestigemotorsport. There are other reliable businesses too, it doesn't have to be one of these but people keep mentioning them because they are actually good. I'm in Melbourne and used Iron Chef, worked out great. He was always accessible when I needed any questions answered. Often enough compliance can happen in another state so it doesn't matter where you are located in relation to your broker. By using a trustworthy broker you eliminate the hassles and they do all the hard work for you.

If you're not game to trust somebody else or you just want to see the car in the flesh first just keep an eye out in the usual places like carsales, carpoint, trading post and visit other dealers (not JSA :p)

have basically reached the conclusion of trying to buy local (if something crops up) or will go with import broker like iron chef or j-spec

on a side note - do youj guys think it's worth a plane trip to go and check this car out?

also how does the whole driving it home thing go for interstate trips? is a roady a hard to get on a legnum?
 
Shit... that's not a bad little number there Stuart. I'm flying to Sydney latter this week, or early next... I could go have a look for you! Give the guy a call and see if its possible, or, ask one of our nice NSW members to see if they will go and check it out. Anything is possible dude.
 
being in another state doesnt matter when importing as they arent actually touching the car just helping you know who to pay and what to do.

J-spec and Ironchef are both easy to deal with and you will save allot of money if you import yourself.

or watch out for cars for sale, take dimi's for eg you couldnt bring in a cleaner car for that sort of money. i think its sold now but there may be others
