Hesitantly Boosting
Hi all,
I had a tie rod come loose during the week. The car was parked at an angle where it popped out so in the process of putting it back together oil poured out from the rack. It was too dark to see exactly where it came out but more than likely from where the tie rod screws into the rack. If it was not it was the end of the rack where the rubber boot covers.
Just putting it back together now and I am confused exactly what the oil was that leaked. Is it actual Power steering fluid or an oil that lubricates the rack itself?. The oil that came out was not red Dexron 3 ( it was a brownie colour) yet my reservoir was down indicating that it may of been dirty DX3.
1) So do I need to syringe some type of oil back into the rack? If so what type of oil is it?
2) Alternatively does the DX3 somehow get from the hydraulic system into the rack itself and topping up the reservoir will suffice?
Any advice is much appreciated.
Thanks
Troy
