Hey guys, if i turn the steering wheel while the car is stationary or moving slowley there is a shuddering through the front end of the car and the steering wheel, does anyone know is it possible the power steering fluid just needs changing or is that more likley that the pump is stuffed. This prob is not on my mighty Leggie but the misses 4 year old (11 months out of factory warranty) XR6. I know its not a VR4 but any help would be appreciatced as i gotta get it sorted for her.

Have you just replaced the fluid in the rack? The system will do this while it gets rid of the air after you've removed the oil.
Is the fluid level ok or is it well down, if yes see above answer

If its just started doing it for no particular reason then i'd call Ford or any mechanic and ask his opinion

I'd suggest calling around a few ford dealerships, they'll probably be able to give you a good indication over the phone based on their past experiences and it won't cost you anything.

Well yes, but coming from a Holden owner that's more like a schoolyard insult than a sound argument *rolls eyes*

^Surf, seeing as you own a commonwhore, surely you would realise that HOLDEN have the longest running power steering pump problem in the world? How can you bag a Ford for an issue that holden have not sorted on the commodores in 20+ years? :ROFLMAO:

Hey Hey

I am not sure about the falcons but the commo's have a few brackets that hold the power steering pipes and hoses in place and when they are loose it creates a shuddering in the steering at low speeds and at stationery. Check all the brackets and if its not that then have a look at the fluid colour if its a dark red and not clear then flush the fluid and use a good thick trans fluid to extend the power steering pumps life or even use a friction modifier in the new fluid as this will extend the pumps life. But DO NOT use a thinner fluid then the factory recommended fluid (and yes you can get thick and thin trans fluid from GOOD oil companies).

Thanks mate i will try that, otherwise i will call my local ford dealer, only thing is im not keen to pay them $95 per hour when i know they will get the apprentice to do it any way.
