well hi all, been posting a little on here but havent introduced myself.

name Ryan, from Bendigo in Vic. been a holden man all my life. VK calais, VN V6 now i have a VS calais V8 [SU8TLE] on 19's which is pretty nice.

got defected the other week for being too low now im considering selling up and getting something japanese. im think im a little over holdens and fords i just need a change. love the idea of turbo wagons so been looking at legnums and stageas but i think i like the legnum more.

still gunna keep my calais till end of uni (round oct) then ill look at getting something like maybe a 99'/00' Legnum VR4 Type-S. id have around $20K to play with so should get something nice for that.

still in the 'thinking about it' phase so nothing set in stone. a guy from here is going to meet me next month to take me for a spin to see if i like legnums which is cool. everyone on here's been very helpful with info and been very nice. a credit to yourselves really. some of the holden forums are not so nice to noobs such as myself with legnums!

anywayz,
cheers and ill be posting around a bit.

SU8TLE...

Hey welcome mate, I completely agree with you about the people being nice on here. It is a surprise as I am a member of many other automotive forums and there are some real dickheads:wanker: out there!

But good move, a legnum is such a nice roomy car and for under 15k you can get yourself a prime late model example with low kms. The rest can be spent on wheels and mods haha!

Hope it goes all well for ya mate !

Welcome!

I too have noticed that trend. Most import enthusiasts will take the time to say g'day and introduce themselves and even help each other out, whereas Holden/Ford owners couldn't give two shits about each other.

Bit of a stereotype I know, but I honestly think it's not far from the truth.

I remember when the standard clutch in the GTiR shit itself, I was in the middle of nowhere and couldn't get the car into gear even when it was turned off. I called a tow truck and during the 45 minute wait 3 different people stopped to see if I was ok. Funny thing was they all drove various japanese imports. On the flip side however, a mate of mine bought a VX Ute and had overheating problems comming back from work out at the mines, he didn't have his mobile on him at the time and couldn't call for help. Apparently he spent 15-20 minutes trying to flag someone down to call RACQ.

Personally, i don't know if i'd ever own an aussie or american car, and not caus of the attitude attached, but simply caus they are the only 2 countries that manufacture cars where increasing cubic capacity seems to be the only method of increasing power output.

I think they should really pay attention to other manufacturers. The other day i was crusing with my mate and we lined up against a VZ SS commodore. my mate was able to keep pace but i was ahead a few meters caus of AWD off the line. Comparing motors, mine is a stock 2.5 litre legnum, my mate has a stock VQ35 and the other bloke had a 5.7 litre V8.

I guess the ultimate comparison would be the new GTR - 3.8 litre capacity and nearly double the output of the new Alloytec holden motor.

alot of people get V8's for the note. not the outright power.
torque is good with a V8.

shouldnt pick on V8's, i currently have one! :p

Wait until you hear the noise of a 6A13TT at idle with a big exhaust. You'll never want a V8 again

Sure is, so if you're researching parts for these engines, use that :)

Welcome aboard Ryan. V8s can tow and still pull pretty damn hard. Oh, and the 6A13TTs don't burn oils like some early LS1's ;) ... their tendency to chew INVECS II gearboxes if you launch them too hard on the other hand.

well im pretty sold on the legnum thus far now ive been for a test drive.
i dont rush any big purchase so ill be using the next few months till uni finishes up to research importing and legnums in general. + getting the calais cleaned up to get a good price (round $10K-$11K). im pretty set on a (let me get this right) 99'/00' Legnum VR4 Type-S which would make it the series 2 with the facelifted front? i also like the red going between the tailights on the rear. that sound right?

Late 98 through to 2002 all looked the same and were the same basic car. Mine is a 98 and is a facelift.Type S is the best model, you get AYC and the wheel arch flares, your choice on manual/auto, sunroof, mmcs and recaro's/momo wheel.
