That noise..... Vids up now.. Go Listen!
Alright I do plan on recording it... I'm kind of hoping my mechanic will beable to pick it but I'm not that sure he will.
It sounds like it's coming from the front left. It happens more often when cold or turning right while going low speed, like a round-a-bout.
Some times it will happen when just taking off out of the drive way going straight down the street.
The noise:
Imagine an old steel floor fan where the fan blades are loose. If you spin it by hand the blades occasionally will hit the mesh cover making a ding / metallic ping noise. If you spin the fan faster the noise will increase with speed, but not necessarily at a uniform frequency.
I think someone else described a weird noise they where getting which they said was like marbles rattling in a can.... I could call it something like that too.
I even sometimes get just 1 clang when I go over a speed hump, the repeated clang only happens when going right.
So my mechanic has had it on stands and said he can't 'see' anything wrong under it.
I'd almost say it sounds like a loose exhaust, but the sound is to rotational for that.
My guess is the CV... I imagine we have front CV's / drive shafts. What throws me on that is that is doesn't sound like any dying CV I have ever heard before. They are normally a much lower clunky crunchy noise, this is a high dry clangy noise.
Also I seem to get a fair bit of road noise out of the front left. Like a whirring noise you could think is a wheel bearing and may well be. It get louder and higher frequency as speed increases... at 100 it is hard to ignore... maybe I need a wheel alignment / balance as well.
Cheers for the feed back.
Plan B is just going to one of the Leggy freindly workshops. Only thing is I can dump the work on our company account if I get it done with my local guy.
VIDEO'S of the noises.
If you turn it up you can hear them both pretty clearly well you can hear something anyhow.
