Yo,

I've been mulling over selling my 97 Leggy for a couple months now. It's in really great condition, very clean, and I've had zero problems with it (except replacing old suspension and brakes). It's got 84k km (52k mi), such low miles for a 27 year old car. Not to mention, the cargo space has been a live saver since I do a ton of home projects; the cargo space is probably larger than most new trucks lol.

However, the allure is gone for one main reason, the thing is fkn slow and automatic. I'll stomp on the gas and get the smallest spark of fun, but it doesn't last. The transmission is truly a prime example of an "auto-tragic". I've been looking all over for a deal on a compatible manual transmission or a whole VR-4 conversion, 6A13TT swap, but that just doesn't really exist (in the US), plus I don't have a shop or all the tools to do a swap. I feel so distant from everyone else in the community with this car.

I guess this is a callout to ask if anyone who can help me swap this damn thing or interested in looking to buy it from me.

Id honestly sell and try to find a VR4. I can get you in touch with my importer if you like. My car was only 9500 usd landed. and only had 52K KM when I got it.

If your chassis is clean, would you consider doing a 4G swap? From what I’m reading it’s fairly simple in terms of swapping engines, Evo 4-9 transmission will bolt to your stock transfer case, and use stock axles. There may also be bolt in mounts to get the motor into your chassis. Then it’s just a matter of getting the pedals sorted and a shifter. However, you’d likely be in the $9-10k ballpark once you get it all together.

There’s another option I’ve been looking at seriously, but it makes Mitsubishi people really upset when u mention it. 🤣

@J_banger has a legnum in Australia hes about to sell. Its in fantastic condition.
Hey @cheeks I’ll be posting up an extremely clean Legnum VR4 for sale in the next couple of days, just finished all the service work on it, getting some pictures of it then listing up. Happy to share with you before I put it up to see if you’re interested, we can work.
1999 Facelift Auto, pearl white with the best condition paint I’ve ever seen on a Legnum.

I've thought about a 4G swap for a while but I just don't have the tools or a shop to do that work.

What's your other option? LS Swap? 😂

It’s a bit harder but engines are much cheaper with more H on it.

How's your mileage in your ST-R?
I have an ST-R Automatic as well rough as guts Facebook Marketplace find. I was getting about 375KM to a tank from memory, that's around town driving.
