Hey y'all!
My name is Matt and for Christmas last year I bought my first car, triggs Trigger Mauve 1996 VR-4 Galant Semi-auto for $7,500.
Since then I've been stalking these forums getting ideas on what to do next to Cece.
Yep I named my dark gal after that VERY hot, dark, gal from new girl (totally justifiable!:tongue_smilie:)
Anyways triggs introduced me to Jonson when I was checking out the car to buy and couldn't be happier.

In the next week or two expect me to;
upload the dyno readout
pics of the car with the new rotors
video of exhaust with straight pipes
video & times of Mallala race 16 of November
Feel free to come and join me! I know nothing about cars so your help will be very welcome. All I know is throw money at Johnson and get an awesome car back (y). Plus I NEED to beat his time of roughly 1.26 (correct me if wrong Jon)
video of 0-100
Ran a 0-100 on the northern expressway last night with with parents managed 6.7sec with me and 2 ...jolly adults stock boost, spare tire and all present mods stated above. I cant wait to see how much faster it will be with E85 and 16+ PSI!)

Well to end this essay any help/advice for Mallala would be great and it will be great to catch up with more drivers who appreciate great cars not commonwhores. Lets hope triggs is proud of what I've done...
End of essay!

Matt.

Welcome aboard Matt!

1st post and it's a well crafted intro with pics, you win at internets! Galant is damn fine too.

Welcome!

Cheers guys!
I can't wait to get Cece back from Mike Dale, Jon to slap the coilovers on and go for a hills drive!
I'm hoping to get around 220kw atw. Do you know how much power loss there is from the engine to the wheels?

Hey Matt,

With E85 you should get that much quite easily I would say.

Looks like I will have another car to contend with for the loudest VR4 in Adelaide?

Send me a PM when you go for a drive if you like, I'll be happy to join after work or weekends.

Welcome Matt. Nice ride and list of mods there. Definitely on the right track.

AWD robs power. Then throw in the Auto factor and that robs even more. I would be highly doubtful that you'll achieve anything higher than 200 awkw in an auto. Don't be disheartened though, getting 200 plus in a VR4 with stock turbo's is a pretty hard task. not many have achieved it without serious supporting mods. Regardless though, you'll be happy i am sure with the increase of power that boost + tune will bring.

Good luck!

Trev, Jonson has a mate who made 195awkw or close to it on his stock Legnum on E85, that was auto too I think. He works for Steve Knight.

Wait, how can I get my car to run on E85? Does it negatively affect any of the hosing? I know ethanol is a water magnet. How readily available is it in Adelaide? So many questions!

We'll see, 220kWATW on Turbo Tune's Dyno Dynamics or a Mainline would be close to 400Hp (294kW) at the engine.... Some auto's are good, some are not, I've had some lose only 10 or 15kW over a manual and others lose 30 or 40.... If you get 240 you'll be doing well. I think the other car was about 180kW. Also run them in 4th gear, some SA guys seem to run the dyno's in 3rd gear, less wheel speed = less tyre friction loss so not really same same....

You need bigger injectors and a big fuel pump, a Walbro 255 would be close to the limit with most of the std mods on stock turbo's. And then you need a tune, and if you can't always get it you need switchable maps, and if you have E60 in winter, you'll need another map.... I believe it's fairly readily available in Adelaide though....

Hosing wise is fine, they haven't used the stuff that E85 doesn't like in cars for years (like late 80's), sediment in your tank is an issue though, you need to get the tank clean first.

Have a look at this....

Wow, nearly 200awkw in a stock auto VR4? That is incredible!

Welcome mate! Glad you joined up. Should make for some interesting driving after the tune. Mine was a 1:24.5.

Its not stock, It has a cat back and a panel filter, boost controller and a tune with the E85, he also works for Mike Dale

That's not the one I was thinking then....

hey guys to distract myself from uni exams i've jumped back on the forums and created a new thread 'Matt's 96 Auto Galant'
its got my E85 dyno read out and tells ya what I broke... :(
