Yeh Micheal at M.V's is a good bloke, knows his stuff! yea it wont be cheap if you get him to do it, but if you can pull the trans out yourself the seal is quite easy to change, if you need a seal try motospecs at wingfield or driveline at brompton they may be able to match something up. Good luck.

Id rather use genuine parts than generic parts..Im aware of whats involved but I need comments from people that have actually had their seal replaced and can talk from experience ie.rough price, customer service etc..and yes I rang MV's and their closed till the 4th of January

I picked the car up cheap and have factored in the price of repairs that may be needed when we bought it.I also own a cressida so $400 for heater hoses is not a shock to me..lol

I was speaking to Mike at MV when my original gearbox was cactus... he was estimating 14 hours of labour for remove/replace of box, whereas most mitsi dealers were quoting me 9 hours. Said about 9 hours to mike and his comment was, well I can estimate 9, but realistically I think I'd need 14 as its the first legnum I've done (this was 18 months ago) which I thought was rather rude - charging the customer for his own Research/Learning time. Anyway, 14 hours at $90 (I think it was) came to $1260 labour... which was on the steep side.

Anyway, never went through him - used Agostino Mitsubishi which did a trans changeover for me for $980 labour. Took them 12 hours in the end, so Mikes estimate was pretty close! LOL

Also, Mallen used Agostino Mitsubishi for a similar price and was happy with their service.

Thanks Lee for your input..its greatly appreciated I'll keep your prices handy when I speak to Mark at MVs and see what he quotes me.

Failing that I'll go to a Mitsubishi Dealer..I guess the dealer warranties all their repairs and work?..I might ask if they can do a good price for ex-mitsubishi employees!...ha ha!!.

Well I've had my auto trans removed and repaired thanks to Mark at MV Automatics and the torque coverter seal wasnt the problem.

The trans ended up having a leaking torque converter due to a cracked converter snout this is apparently from what Mark was saying a problem that is just as common as a leaking torque converter seal.

I ended up having all the transfer case seals replaced, torque converter seal replaced, internal trans filter replaced, torque converter opened up and the snout replaced and pressure tested, seals replaced in the trans pump too, serviced the trans and filled with SPIII.

The total was $1400 in total but the labour was $800 alone..and the converter work was $350 and the converter was sent to a converter specialist.

All in all I was happy with MV's and would recommend them to anyone. Its good to experience professional service and to get my car back without grease and shit all over my car from backyarders that dont give a shit..(y)

That's good feedback Jason - seems like he's done a few now and his labour rates are a bit better estimated/priced. Overall sounds like a good job was done. Did you consider having it replaced while the trans was out?

Err...no...I didn't but touch wood it doesn't bite me in the ass later.
Mark checked everything and said it was fine.

The internal filter in the trans was full of crap but no metal filings..obviously this filter was never changed in 85k plus of motoring.
