Track width & wheel widths

I can't seem to find what the std. track width in for the galant.

There has been a whole lot of talk regards wheels widths & legality that I don't won't to delve into. But I would just like to establish for myself what truely is legal for me here in QLD.

Upon reviewing the rules we have here in QLD (seen here) it states that a wheel width may be no more than 1.3 times max. manufactures spec so @ 6.5x1.3 = 8.45 max. so round it up & you have 8.5 which is a good size & legal.

Its after that when it mentions you can increase the track a max. of 26mm. So given the stock track size + width increase & picking a workable offset a pretty accurate max. legal fitting size should result.

Or has someone else already done this? I did search first before writing this.

The offset of the 16x6.5" wheels is 38mm. Meaning that you can run 18x8.5" 25mm offset wheels.

The track is 1525mm front and 1520mm rear according to Mitsi. That is irrelevant though, as I said above, 25mm offset is the number. You won't get 8.5" 25mm wheels to work on a VR-4 though, you'll be through the guards.

Brad is right - Track is wheel centre to Wheel centre. If you go with say an 18x8.5 +35 then the wheel centre is only shifting by a few mm, so nothing to worry about there

The only place where people may get caught is running +10's on nissans with wide guards which have stock offset of around +35, there you would be increasing track by greater than 25mm - Galant/Legnum guards pretty much ensure you won't have to worry too much.

i beg to differ.

my current wheels are 8.5" +40 and theres a good 16-17mm gap between wheel and guards. could even fit a +20 offset rim for epic fitment.

Has anyone else seen the black RE30's on evooz, +33 but I think they'd be worth a little guard rolling.

Your in QLD mate, why are you so concerned about getting stung for wheel widths? Just run as wide as you can fit within the guards and no more than 18 and no one will bother you.......unless there all chrome Vaults or something. In this case you may be hassled by us lol

Not worried about it, good to know though. Long commute to work on a rough hwy is the main reason I don't want to go as big as I can. I had seen some 8.5s but the offset was wrong.

I live in country Vic (needless to say the roads suck) and I run 9s. What's the prob with wide wheels on rough roads?

umm.. dude, u got it around the wrong way. a bit extra means a bit wider never hurts. why would u go narrower when u know u can go wider.. [/confusion].

ive actually been defected for 'out of track', and thats because it was ****ing obvious. i had 9's (+10 offset) at the time and they had no probs with that, but the spacers i were running.

Tim - I meant as a general guide, Nissan guards are wider compared to the VR4 guards thus can fit a lower offset even though stock offset is the same/similar...... or am I wrong in this?

Go the wider wheels, you'll thank yourself in the long run
