Hey Mike, welcome to the club :)

I know you're new around here but in future, please use our search function at the top of the forum page or refer to our VR-4 jargon thread page first - you'll find oodles of the most commonly asked questions by using those two methods.

Type V have the standard power windows, air conditioning, power steering and 4WD. But no AYC and pre 2000 models have the basic, non hi-vis instrument cluster without the special illumination.
The Type V is your entry level VR-4.
Type V comes with standard pre-facelift (series I) wheels as well and no guard flare extensions.
Type V is the lightest of all VR-4's.

Type S have all the standards plus the guard flare extensions, CD player, special hi-vis illuminated dash cluster, upgraded interior, AYC, chrome gear surround, and the later model wheels.

Comsetically, there aren't that many differences between the two. The only difference in stock form is the flared guard extensions on the Type S and the updated wheels.
