Hi guys,

Emanuel and I talked about reading the manufacture date of your tires on Sunday but never got round to actually checking my tire. So I googled how to find the date: http://www.tuninglinx.com/html/car-tire-date-code.html

I took off the crappy compliance toyo's due to bad vibration issues (all 4 were out of round grrrrr) and put the japanese tires back on (naughty I know...) and it turns out they were made in 2001/2002

They still have plenty of tread but obviously I need to get new ones or risk a nasty blow out.

Sounds like a good case to take to the wife for a new wheel and tire package :)

cheers

Lee

They did a thing about this on A Current Affair. They say the tyre places are ripping people off by selling old stock and its dangerous and blah blah blah lets interview 5000 people and make everyone look bad, like typical A Current Affair stories.

Mine are 2002 Michelins, due to be replaced on the front. At that age they wear UNBELIEVABLY FAST!! And tend to bulge a lot lol... Even with 40PSI. I shredded the edges off mine when i got the car in about 2 months. Can't be a good thing

Yeah the edges are really chewed up on mine from a motorkhana I went to - I really do need to replace em asap but I just spent a fair chunk of $$$ on mods - doh!

used tyres

Can you buy used Japanese tyres in Australia? These are fairly common in NZ - v cheap of course, but not ideal obviously.

I don't think so, not that many Jap tyres meet Australian standards (certain markings requried etc).

cheers

Hmm, I see no such markings on an old 225/50/16 Pirelli I have here. Will have to look at some other tyres.

no 'jap' tyres have the australian standard stamp on them, for obvious reasons... but most meet/exceed the standards anyway. ie, bridgestone RE01R

locally sold versions will have the stamp though.
