Hello! I'm from Bahrain. I don't own a Galant/Legnum, but I have some familiarity with them, having been around them in Japan when they were new. I am in the midst of cleaning up a 6A13tt swap into a 99 Colt. It runs, and it is a bit scary, according to the owner. My goal- make it as reliable as possible with safety emphasized (needs upgraded brake package). While looking for safety-related items, some things I am looking for are CV axle upgrade (may have to go the custom route, unless someone has some custom, race-oriented ones that will fit the Colt and its gearbox), conversion to single turbo (custom turbo manifold, anyone?), camshafts, injectors, electronics (anybody re-chipped the factory ECU yet?)

Basically, I need your help, and yes, I will do the research here before asking too many questions. If anyone is interested in this swap, please feel free to ask me or weigh in, especially if someone has already done this swap before.

Thanks, and I hope to make new friends and be able to assist with anything here.

Dawoud, first of welcome to the site! Secondly, your "little" project sounds like a real challenge. Not many, if any, have done anything to that scale with their vehicles so watch and learning from you will be a fantastic experience.

What exactly was your motivation to begin this in the first place?

Fastest FWD in the world??:D

Welcome Dawoud, and there is much development happening right now with these engines; I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

My motivation is based out of necessity. We have crap cars with less than base model options, so if one wants to give the V8 boys a go, we're forced to do swaps. I enjoy the challenge of doing the unusual, so a lot of guys here in the gulf area know about me and my lack of fear to try the unordinary. If a client comes to me with a proposal, we talk it out, go over previous swaps, see what exactly needs to be done from A-Z and just go for it (as long as the client has the budget). Not to say I do things without thinking them out with safety and reliability, for those two areas are paramount to anything I undertake. Cars/trucks and bikes are just another form of canvas for creative art, and yeah, I have got to make a living somehow. :)

We've broken quite a few axles from the torque and the brakes need an upgrade, and we get serious wheel spin even in third gear. The 6a13tt is a monster in the ultralight colt chassis. I knew that going into it and just wanted to see what areas gave out first before going further. Right now, I am at the stage of making it safe, reliable and installing a solid foundation for a single turbo. My concentration now is getting the corner weights just right with suspension/chassis mods, beefier axles and plus up the rim/tire size to help negate wheel spin/axle snap.

For starters, the 4G15 gearbox for the Colt/Mirage bolts up, but the flywheel and clutch must be taken from a 2.0 Galant. To keep wheel spin to a minimum and put equal load on each axle, i am installing a LSD. The shafts I am making here locally. I will heat treat them and use upgraded CVs. This should help from snapping the axles in combination with an LSD. Also, I am going to go a little wider on the 16 inch rims. Anything to to keep wheel spin to a minimum. I am also going to have to widen the fenders to compensate for a wider tire package. While I am at it, I am going to replace all of the bushings and the suspension with adjustable stuff. Anyway, thanks for showing interest.

Wow, sounds like a expensive little project you have there ;) Would be a pocket rocket thats for sure; and best of all, will blow away unsuspecting V8's, now that tickles me a little bit.

Welcome and hopefully you will find all the advise we can provide here :) I'm new myself and already I have had a warm welcome with plenty of help from fellow members.

thanks! Yeah... it may be an expensive project, so I am trying to develop/make my own stuff locally as much as possible and I have convinced the owner of the car to be sensible and patient and plan the budget out over a year so that we "grow" into the project. His wife is already pissed as it is. Hhhhhhhh! Crazy kuwaitis!

I have been looking for aftermarket performance parts specifically for the 2.5, but everytime I put in 6A13TT into a search field, it always results in 4G63 EVO stuff. Can anyone point out a shop/dealer who actually has things like cams, MLS gaskets, pistons, bearings, etc? Yes, I have searched around a bit. RPW seems to have some stuff but it looks like they are no further along than I am. I would love to rechip this baby with at least boost and speed cut. A SAFC NEO could help me out with the air/fuel. Cheers!

Salaam Dawoud,

Very interesting project you got going here, something that I would love to see.

Please post some pics as this creation of yours sounds wild.

Also your English is very good, you originally from Bahrain or overseas?

All the best with it.

Aleikum sala'am! The car is coming to my place next week and I will take pics, since this will mark the start of the D touch, mashallah. The swap was installed by someone in q8, but it stopped there, since the person didn't know what else to do. Inshallah we will do this safely and right. I got the Legnum service manual, and thankfully, I read and speak Japanese. From everything I have been researching so far, there's not much in the way of "tuner" stuff, since Mitsu never really pumped the Galant as its flagship, and while living in Japan during the 90's/early 00's, the only people I saw driving these cars were 30-somethings or families. I looked at it as the Mitsu version of the Nissan Stagea. It's funny that before the EVO, the Galant WAS the EVO and Mitsu campaigned it before they separated the two designs in theory and application. In the Mitsu Eclipse G1 and 2, there's a lot of Galant parts that are interchangeable, and this also went on with the Colt/Mirage/Lancer models of the 90's. You can say that from knowing these things, we are going to take it even further. Sorry for rambling, but I am just pumped about it, and I am pumped that the people here at OZVR4 are enthusiastic about it, too. Next week, i'll start my thread on the project. Who knows, maybe we'll see OZ/NZ versions of the VR4 Colt

I am of mixed heritage and culture, as are a lot of ba7raini. I've only been here for 5 years in Ba7rain.

Here's some useless bar trivia, but did you all know that before Mitsu came out with the EVO X, the Colt platform was being looked at as the replacement for the Lancer EVO. That was just something I picked up on while living in Japan and having a GF at the time who was into rally.
