Hey guys, i unplugged the battery from the car for an hour and i've just plugged it back in. After plugging it in, i tried to start it and it would just go "clack" like an electrical noise and the courtesy light inside would turn off, dash lights, air con and everything else. Does anyone know what this is?

I had to unplug the terminals from the battery and plug them back in and the lights and radio etc. would all work again but when i try to start, it would just do the "clack" noise again and happen all over again :banghead:

If you've got a multimeter check the voltage on the battery. I'm guessing that it's dropped below 12 volts so the car wont turn over.

Yep, battery is dead. Enough volts for accessories but not to start the car. Like peter said, get a multi-meter on there and I'd say its around or below 12.0V - this happend to me just after car came from Japan.

When you get the car started (jump start for now or new battery), make sure the volts at the terminals are 13.5V or higher to indicate its charging properly when the engine is running.

Sweet. Will do. Thanks guys.
Yeah i just got worried because each time i tried to turn the key to start, all the accessories that were on would just turn off and it would be dead. I thought i wrecked something.
NRMA battery man is on his way now :D

At least the Japanese battery gets the flick for something more robust? Let us know what the NRMA battery man think about the Legnum ;)

Good to hear your mobile again.
Hope you got a good strong battery those little Jap batteries are pretty much crap.

cheers

Before you turf out the battery next time check out your battery terminals for how tight they are and how much corrosion has built up this can cause the same things to happen.

Most times its just a dead cell. Unless you've got a hygrometer you can't check to make sure. Doesn't really matter as, if a cell is dead, there ain't nothing you can do about it except get a new battery.

Spot on. One of the terminals were corroded so bad it was stopping the car from starting. I had this replaced and it was solved.

New (gold) terminal:

I was lucky then. Got mine from Japan, a big arse Panasonic battery, prob to power all the 'avionics' shit and power amplifier.

Every start is sweet. Not suprisingly, it did go flat running the amp after 15mins with the engine off.

No probs with the battery though.
