Hi guys basically my VR-4 doesn't feel as fast as it should feel it certainly doesn't feel like 206kw and the turbo boost only comes on past 4000rpm and even then it isnt that strong, it is completely stock standard with no mods, i am getting no check engine light on the dash or anything, but i really feel it should have a lot more get up and go then it does and i am wondering if anyone on here can help, i can go and take a vid of the acceleration if this helps you compare.

thanks in advance

Scotty

Won't feel like 206kw because it's actually only 130 odd at the wheels in standard trim. ;-)

Now the obvious has been stated... auto or manual, done an ecu reset ?

As said before it does sound like the same problem I had.. Was getting full boost at 4000-4500 due to actuator/wastegate not opening/closing properly. But you should do boost leak test first just to make sure.. If it is you may be better off getting low K turbos with actuators and dumps for a straight swap.

yes done ecu reset (disconnecting battery?) have also checked for fault codes and not one showed up 5spd auto i have been in a Legnum VR-4 about 2 years ago at a track that was definitely faster then mine in standard trim also, it is about 7.5 0-100ks my previous standard VY Calais Supercharged 3.8 V6 was faster and im pretty sure this shouldn't be the case, i am sure there is something a miss with this car they were pretty wild even on standard boost from what i can remember of that Legnum 2 years ago, what is the best way to look for a boost leak? any suggestions on how i would go about fitting a boost gauge i am reasonably mechanically competent but have only had hands on experience with Holden V6's and LS1 V8's and a few Jap diesels this is my first turbo petrol Japanese car.

96vr4 How did you go about diagnosing the actuator and fixing the problem?

I did a compression test first. That came back fine so I knew the motor was good. I assumed it was a dead turbo so got low k ones to replace them. When I took the front one off and showed my mate that works at a turbo shop he said the actuator/wastegate wasnt opening/closing properly and wasnt seated flush when closed.. The turbo was in good nick.

I think you could do a pressure test or something on each turbo actuator to see if theyre opening/closing properly but im not sure.. When you take it to Mitsubishi they should be able to tell you what the problem is.

thanks for the advice, i will be back with an update on tuesday when its booked in cheers.

Fitting a boost gauge is super easy, there is a guide on here. Just watching your boost levels will give you a fair bit of information to start working with.

problem was the actuator on the back turbo, i used some CRC on it freed it up, car pulls very well now, thanks.

No worries. Glad to hear it was a easy fix. Mine was a headache.

Been told today this is the problem I currently have, further investigation into potential solutions required...

Mines not holding pressure apparently split diapraghms for both... :-/
