Hey guys im new to VR4's so try go easy.
My cuz owns a 98 VR4 and hes having trouble with his engine since he installed a bov. for starters is the VR4 a sequential twin turbo? The problem is the car was running perfect when it was standard but he installed a pod filter and a turbosmart bov and now it feels as though the second turbo isnt making boost:confused:. i have abit of knoledge with RS legacys and FD RX7's but iv neva seen this, iv seen what they've done they cut and pluged two vacum hoses that used to run into the standard bov and fitted the new one but the new one wasnt installed in the same place, could this make the engine loose performance? or can you guys help?
cheers

not too sure about the BOV maybe its bleeding pressure when it shouldnt but the turbos are not sequential

the way i understand simultaneous turbo's would have 2 different size turbo's the smaller one would kick in earlier then at a certain rpm the other one would kick in.. therefore it ends up having better torque throughout the rev range..

question to your cousin.. 1. what type of pod filter he's got and 2. what setting does he have the BOV set to? as far as i know you can set the spring pressure on them.. (my friend had a turbosmart BOV Type I)

try adjusting the pressure a little more tighter.. so it holds the positive intake pressure more/longer..

tell him to try and returning the stock airbox/filter to eliminate 1 issue..

is he somewhat getting boost cut? or the power just slowly lowers down?

vr4's run parrallel turbos, both boost at the same time. there is no second turbo kick.

pod filters are shit, you'll be sucking hot air in from the engine bay,
this reatards the timing on the motor and you loose power,
put the factory intake back on, with a good highflow panel filter.

always run 98octane.

you can put the bov where ever on the motor side of the pipe work, does not matter as long as its setup correctly.

Carsten is 100% right ^^^

Some vent to air BOV's have caused problems for VR-4's and made them stall, perhaps it is setup to stay open for too long and is stalling the car. Does it have any adjustment options?

Luke, provide some more info mate. Does the car have trouble idling, does it almost stall after you rev it etc is it none of the above and just poor repsonse etc etc

Sounds like a couple of things-
1 the vacuum line to the BOV isn't on properly or the hose is split.
2. the tension is very loose causing it to vent to atmosphere and hence the dull performance
3 stalling/low idle, a common occurance with vent to atmoshpere BOV's in cars running mass airflow sensors
