Anyone know where I can buy front driveshaft for 1996 PFL galant vr4?

That's my old car *sniff*

Only had 78K's on the clock when I was rear ended at a set of lights. So the shaft is about as new as you'll find.

The rear of the chassis was bent (hence why it was a write off), though the front doors still worked properly, so I'd be hopeful that the front drive shaft escaped damage. You can see in the photo that the boot doesn't close and the rear right passenger door doesn't close completely.

Why dont you just get the diff from that then :p

OOHH also how did the LSD handle before it broke? Worth having a LSD in a leggy?

Mitsfix wrecking a PFL legnum here:

WHATD YOU DO!!?? only heard of driveshafts snapping once and that was someone in NZ converted his galant to rwd and doing skids

Brand new they aint cheap!!!! : http://www.camskill.co.uk/m22b0s140...ft_-_MR246173_Legnum_EC5W_and_Galant_VR4_EC5A

lol, I lowered my car and it kinda stuff up both front driveshaft. I only want to change it to get rid of vibration when I accelerate. They told me to drive it till I fuk up driveshaft and change them both then lol.

There's a point that's two low...

I think Macca encountered this, if you raise it up slightly should be ok unless you've gone past the point of no return...

i lowered to the legal limit lol. Didn't go all the way to ground. But like you said, I might just use this till i have enough for coil over. Lol and raise it a bit up

Wouldn't leave it too long if the driveshafts are running at wicked angles...

Yeah man, I thinking of just getting king springs lowered one. I asked people if my car is safe to drive, they said it wouldn't be trouble cept for vibrations. I am still trying to figured out if those super lowered cars have same problem as mine lol.

Because I want SAYC, apparently the stock AYC diff is known to run into trouble when put under much bigger power than stock. I'm chasing 180KW at least, hopefully 200KW in the next 6 odd months (we'll see how my engine rebuild goes).

LSD was good when travelling with a bit of pace, though you really did notice the lock at low speeds when cornering, you need to give it a little throttle to keep a tight line. Parking was a nightmare, makes you look like a retard doing a 6-point turn to park...

Mind you, I think I was the third owner of this car with the diff installed, so it was likely 100,000K's old by the time I was driving it, and only had it about 5-6 weeks before the diff started playing up.

Sorry for the derail.

Get them reco'd. Can't get new ones locally (well in qld at least) that'll fix the vibrations, if they still do it when new, raise the car 5-10mm (on the coil over)

Thanks Paul. I got told it will def fix the vibration and that I have to least driveshaft every years or two.

Aren't HJ galant ones the same, the rest of the suspension is...

Check your engine mounts, if the engine is sitting 20mm low it's like lowering your another 20mm....

nope, legnum shafts have 32 splines at the shaft-outer CV joint interface, HJ have 24. Implies (to me anyway) a narrower driveshaft and potential problems. Also they don't have the ABS rotor on them (the cv joints I found didn't have them anyway, maybe you have to transfer them over from the old shafts).

I experienced this exact same problem when I lowered my car to the height in my avatar. I had all 8 CV joints inspected, swapped and reconditioned where possible and the problem did not go away.

I put it down to the fact the angle they were operating at, at the front, was simply to high. Once the car was raised the problem went away, not what you want to hear I know but will probably be the only affordable solution.

Edit: If you want stance, by a RWD car. :p

Did you raised both front and rear or just a front? I won't be able to raise it back up as I heated and reset all springs. So my only option would be either get second hand springs and do it again or get a coil overs.

I raised both but it was the front that was causing the issue, I only raised the rear to level the height of the car.

How are heated and reset springs btw, heard both good and bad stories?

Yes ive hear this alot as well even on the 7gen galant, i remember a friend put some super low springs on his car and car would vibrate alot, thinking maybe his control arms or cv's and few suggested that it was to low and he brought other low springs and not as low as his other set, it raise the car abit but he didnt get any noise again.

Personally before anything maybe buy a set of cheap standard shocks & springs probably cost you $100-$150 for a set of 4 (maybe a member here has set, dont buy from wreakers, they charge to much) and install them and see if its gone's.

I would look at that first before looking at cv's, control arms or anything like that :)

Well only bad things are that vibrations and left hand cv gap between lower control arm is bit too close while right hand gap is normal. I might just get another set of springs from here and do all over again but prob I won't go low too crazy this time. You can see how low my car is when I pick up those stuffs tonight Fred lol.
