Has anyone had experience with Ben Tan Auto Mechanical Service? Are they any good?

hey keegan, yeah did my major service (timing belt/sparkplug/tensioners etc) and clutch change with them. No complain-o and very reasonable labor rate for both jobs.
I supplied parts and fluids, Ben supplied the labor. Apparently Ben worked with mistubishi stealership for a good 10years.
Hes worked on a legnum before my galant went in, both cars did major service.
Ben also does bodywork and auto body paint too, his workshop population seems very honda bias-ed but that could be just when i visited.

Public Service Announcement - There's a workshop on Capel Court in Bentley called Evolution-R. I know a couple of members on here have used them in the past, but I highly recommend against them - my brother took his Legnum in there to get the autobox and rear diff flushed. They said "probably a couple of hundred bucks" when he took it in (he didn't get a written quote - he's far too trusting) and it came back costing over a grand. They charged something like $800 for use of their MUT-II (or whatever equivalent they have) and when he asked WTF? they said they had to make the money back on the piece of equipment because it cost so much to buy. I told him that is definitely not legal, but it's up to him to sort it out...

Anyway, avoid - even if you don't need a diff flush, you don't want to take your car to people who are this dishonest.

i got lazy once and took my car there (Evolution-R) to have the oil filter changed.

i dropped it in at 8am, and they said it will be ready at 10am. Walked down there from work and was told it would be another 2 hours. Walked back 2 hours later and noone was there. Walked back after work about 4pm and it was finally ready. However i had to wait for about an hour for one of the guys to get back just so that i could pay.


most annoying $60.00 i ever spent.

Tim Slako's West Racing is another very good mechanic. Took my R34 and my Lexus there, always did a top quality job!

Found a great workshop reasonably close to home (Fremantle). Its called GTI Performance in Bibra Lake. I took my supra there just to get the boost controller changed and a baseline power run on their hub dyno. The guys there seem very mature, sensible and honest. Simon is from the UK and he has a background in electronics and is extremely knowledgeable in regards to ECU stuff and is a very patient, thorough, systematic and pragmatic tuner. There is a genuine sense of customer service there and absolute honesty, and I will happily be going back. He will tune ANY ecu system happily and will not try to push you into buying an ECU which he prefers. There isn't that sense of arrogance either, or impatience like I find with some places.

He races in various events and came 8th in the targa west in a very impressive evo, and this is a privately owned racecar also. He is familiar with our VR-4's and upon asking if he has worked on them he said no but will happily do it.

One of the things that impressed me is their 100% money back guarantee on their tuning services. If you dont like the tune they will take it back to how it originally was and not charge you.

I dont think he does flash tuning, but you may be able to twist his arm....

Yeah Jamie didn't have great success with my car and said it probably wasn't worth him persuing (tuning of factory VR-4 ECUs that is)
