Is there anything that has to be done before welding on the chassis?

am mainly concerned about potentially frying electronics... but any general advice would be good too..

also are there any special welding consumables required? or will the "standard" mig wire/ MMA electrodes work? had previously read somewhere that some chassis are special alloys/high strength steels and dont want to use the wrong electrodes and cause more issues..

just want to weld a few little mounting tabs onto the chassis to mount some new hardware i'm working on, nothing structural.

As above, my only other advice is be aware of what is on the other side of what you're doing, your carpet might catch on fire if you were welding underneath etc. sounds obvious, often overlooked.

it would be ideal if you can use surge protector to avoid frying electronic devices (headunits/ecu/etc)

also our chassis is only mild steel, so just use the typical .8mm mig wire spool
