Window wiper issue - fuse blowing without wipers on

In the middle of a thunderstorm, I heard the fuse pop and the wipers froze mid-sweep.

Fuse blows with ignition on, wipers off.
Fuse does not blow with wiper-motor unplugged.

I've torn the motor out to bench test it, but I don't know the pinout.

I don't know the pin out for the motor, but I would try putting one probe of your multimeter to earth and the other into various pins of the socket coming from the loom.
There would be constant +12v there (to allow wipers to return with the switch off)
Then try with Low speed (looking for another +12v) and then high speed etc. to see if you can work out the wiring.
But sounds like the motor is shagged and might be easier to try and get a complete new motor than attempting to fix old.
Dunno how fixable they are....

If anyone with a similar problem finds this thread and is curious,

Bench testing the wiper motor is easy. The pins are labeled; +1 (low speed), +2 (high speed), B (Battery/12V), E(earth), S(switch)
Hook up 12V to pin B and GND to pin E (with an inline 20A fuse), then apply 12V to +1 to test low speed, +2 to test high speed.

In my case, the motor worked fine and the problem was caused by a worn loom in the front passenger wheel arch.

What does S(switch) terminal do?
Is it the common for the wiper stalk? +12V out?

I'm not too sure.
Something to do with the intermittent setting.
Possibly 12V out to the relay or something, but don't take my word for it.
