...and it's great news
Sue and I have been low income earners and renters our whole lives, we are now 45.
We both grew up in Western Sydney, moved to the central coast together when we were 18.
5 years ago I did an adult apprenticeship as a diesel mechanic and put up with very low wages for 3 years, I did my 4 year apprenticeship in 3 years.
That got me the job I have now as a John Deere technician in country SA, yes it was a big move to SA and we had to leave our 2 older sons behind in NSW so they could finish their Uni courses. We did bring our 13 year old son with us.
So the news...
Something that Sue and I thought would never happen in our lives...
Sue and I have been pre-approved for our first ever home loan.
It's a loan for the purchase of land and construction of a new home.
We have already been looking at land and homes.
We have chosen this house... http://www.sarahhomes.com.au/h_4Elindsay.php
But with the upgrades we want, power/water connections, sewer sepage tank installed it comes to approx $160k.
We purchased our acreage 2 weeks ago and signed the contract last Wednesday.
2.5 acres with views of the Flinders Ranges out the back and views of Spencer Gulf out the front.
It was selling for $85k, we offered $60k, they came back with a counter offer of............
$65k
So we purchased it for $65k.
Who says low balling doesn't pay?
This is the block...

The land has power available right in front and has a water meter already installed.
We intend on building our house 100 meters back from the street.
This means we will be connecting three phase power due to the distance of connection.
Power connection quotes so far...
First quote = $9k
Second quote = $5k
We went up to look at the block of land last weekend.
The owners whom still live in the block behind ours, we are buying their back block, greeted us at the newly constructed back fence and invited us up to their place for a drink.
They are Greek and very friendly.
They told us that they are going to construct new fences for us down both sides of the block before settlement, I might have to go up and give a hand in the construction.
I had a few beers in the shed with the husband and Sue and Steven went inside their house for a coffee/soft drink with the wife.
He has a 3.5l Magna which has leaking rocker covers, I told him to get the parts and I fixed it yesterday for free.
As the community there work with each other in a barter system.
When we left they gave us some of their home grown produce straight out of their walk-in cool room...10 tomatoes, 2 rock melons, 3 apple cucumbers, 2 cucumbers and 12 eggs.
Here are some pics of our block of red dirt.
Enjoy our future views.
