Yeah, I'll be there on wednesday, hopefully I'm not deaf/insane by then.
I'll play around with gains to see what effect they have, if any.

Looks like the seats coming out...again.

have you upgrade the earth from the battery to chassis?

upgrading the earths in the engine bay is a good thing to do anyway but it can also help to eliminate noise and your head lights dimming

usually you should use an equivalent size wire to what you are using for your amps

Oh a question guys... Are you using Pioneer headunits? If so it could be the fuseable link that has gone...

Yeah I am actually, what could have caused that to go?
The HU is about 5 years old now I think.

Usually pulling an RCA out of an amp while its going, or something similar..

Im not totally sure on the earlier units but the P80's are really bad for it...

I've got the same jaycar amp in my older nissan and the whine is really bad at lower volumes, maybe the amp just needs a filter no matter how it's installed.
I've got my rca's and power run on opposite sides of the car, completely seperated whereever possible, got good quality rca cables, upgraded the ground connection between the battery and chassis to a 0 gauge cable, and have tried relocating the ground from the amp a couple of times to get rid of the whine with no luck.
It's a great amp otherwise, I've got it with some jaycar kevlar response splits which are okay but would probably sound a lot better with some decent sound deadening.
